Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division has an opening for a Supply Chain Planning Engineer in Seguin, TX.  In this role you will Supervise forecasting analysts. Utilize consistent processes and forecasting tools to support customer groups.

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future. 

What You Will Do:

• Ensuring forecasts are entered into the appropriate systems and completed in a timely manner.

• Monitoring and reviewing economic trends, incorporating them into forecasts appropriately.

• Driving continuous process and system improvements.

• Working closely with top management and other key stakeholders to discuss major assumptions, risks, and opportunities to the forecast.

• Develop, implement, and maintain advance analytical and optimization techniques to solve business problems in the areas of inventory optimization, orders management, demand forecasting, sales, operations planning etc.

• Conduct research on data model optimization and algorithms to improve effectiveness and accuracy on data analyses.

• Lead to define requirements and scope of data analyses; present and report possible business insights to management using data visualization technologies.

• Develop tools and pipelines to efficiently collect, clean, and prepare massive volumes of data for analysis.

• Forecasting: Knowledge of forecasting tools, approaches and practices; ability to determine product demand and estimate production requirements and loads.

• Summarizes and reports problems such as issues and concerns currently existing in demand management operations.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking - Level Extensive Experience:  Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

• Differentiates assumptions, perspectives, and historical frameworks.

• Assesses and validates decision options and points and predicts their potential impact.

• Advises others in analyzing and synthesizing relevant data and assessing alternatives.

• Uses effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus.

Analytical Approach - Level Extensive Experience: Understanding of the value of accurately analyzing the current environment and ability to synthesize ideas and information required for process improvement into a manageable form.

• Employs sound facilitation techniques to support idea generation and analysis.

• Compares key metrics against benchmarks and goals so as to keep pace with improvement opportunities.

• Applies accepted methods of testing improvements before deployment.

• Prepares actionable decision support materials for team and management.

• Resolves inconsistencies in data sets and measures outcomes at multiple intervals to enable meaningful comparisons.

Financial Forecasting and Modeling - Level Extensive Experience: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques of financial forecasting and modeling; ability to explore and evaluate alternative financial scenarios and results.

• Evaluates the key benefits and drawbacks of alternative models.

• Utilizes the features and facilities of multiple modeling tools applicable to various situations.

• Participates in making business decisions based on financial forecasts and models.

• Consults on the application of a variety of forecasting and modeling techniques.

• Analyzes and resolves anomalies discovered when running models.
