Job Description
JOB PURPOSE: Manage purchasing operations to build value-driven vendor partnerships with a focus on risk management, reliability, and cost-effectiveness that supports the overall organizational strategies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a strategic plan to drive down on-hand inventory and improve inventory turns
- Oversee purchasing and the materials departments and maintain an active role in day-to-day operations
- Data analysis - report writing, data validating, and understanding data to help drive decision making
- Lead and mentor employees in department and organization
- Drive strategic initiatives with the executive team
- Manage supplier relationships and negotiate pricing and terms
- Ensure that suppliers meet minimum quality standards
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual report out to the Executive Team
- Develop future leaders in the Supply Chain function
- Document and ensure consistence practices across all functional areas
- Develop and implement cycle counting practices to ensure inventory integrity
- Lead vendor managed or consigned inventory
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies, minimizing legal and operational risks associated with procurement activities.
- Oversee raw material quoting activity to strategically select the right suppliers to allow Kato Cable to strengthen existing relationships and develop new suppliers
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience, Competencies and Education
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 7+ years in strategic sourcing or commensurate experience in related functions.
- 5+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Nationally recognized professional certification (Certified Purchasing Manager or Certified Professional Contract Manager).
- Effective negotiation skills, with a track record of successful contract negotiations and cost savings.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint)
- Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret the documents relating to the job, function or assignment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Mathematical Skills
Ability to perform basic mathematical equations.
- Reasoning Ability
Ability to make decisions when identifying in-process problems. Ability to deal with a variety of job assignments. Capable of making appropriate judgement calls, and consulting management when necessary.

The Strategic Materials Manager will need to provide strategical, tactical, and operational direction to the organization and will oversee the planning, procurement, and distribution of materials and products according to company needs and customer requirements.

The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. The primary functions of this job take place in an office setting, with an occasional visit to the production floor and frequent visits to suppliers
