Supply Chain - Industrial Performance Intern

McCormick & Company, Incorporated is seeking a full-time Industrial Performance Intern at McFONA located at 1900 Averill Rd, Geneva, IL. This is a 10-week internship (June 2024 - August 2024) which requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:

• Education: working towards BS in Engineering, Food Science, Biology, or related field
• Computer skills: Software proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft AX, Product Vision. In absence of knowledge related to one or more of the above software systems, must demonstrate ability to learn the needed software system.

General Summary:
Reporting to the Industrial Performance Manager, this position serves the Industrial Performance team within FONA. The Industrial Performance team functions as a bridge between Flavor Creations, Sample Services and Product Manufacturing to ensure consistent product quality for our customers and greatly reduce the risk of producing FONA product that does not meet our customer's expectations.
Responsibilities will include;

• Assist with Audits of First Production Runs - Assist the team with audits of first time make production runs of new flavors for accuracy and adherence to the formula and manufacturing instructions.
• Assist with Data Creation- Assist with documenting process specifications first time makes of Emulsion for Spray Dry Flavors which includes: Emulsion Particle Size, Refractive Index, Viscosity.
• Assist with manufacturing of Gold Standard- Perform liquid and extract compounding, make flavor reactions, and operate spray dryers and lab reactors in Sample Services to assist the Industrial Performance team with the establishment of ideal commercialized formulas and manufacturing instructions for future full-scale flavor production.
• Assist with formula scale-up experiments - Perform liquid and extract compounding, make flavor reactions, and operate spray dryers and lab reactors in Sample Services to assist the Industrial Performance team with the establishment of ideal commercialized formulas and manufacturing instructions for future full-scale flavor production.
• Assist with operating spray dryers and lab reactors in Sample Services to assist with the establishment of Gold Standard sample formulas.
• Formula review: Review instructions and process for all flavor forms produced at FONA during Commercialization Check request.
• Assist Industrial Performance Manager with Creation of work-flow diagrams. - Assist with the creation of work-flow for all function of End to End processes of commercial order execution.

Job Specifications:

• Ability to read, write and speak English fluently, bilingual in both English and Spanish is preferred
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Math and operating skills, as well as, good attention to quality and detail are essential
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Organized
• Strong adherence to Safety policies and GMPs
• Strong problem solving ability

Working Conditions
Typical manufacturing environment with frequent interaction with lab and office environments; need for lifting up to 50 lbs. is helpful to carry out all duties.
Must understand material and equipment hazards and perform duties in a safe manner utilizing recognized safe practices and/or appropriate personal protective equipment; must promptly notify supervisor of any unsafe acts or conditions.
