Job description

AmTrust Financial Services, a fast-growing commercial insurance company, is currently seeking a Supervisor, Underwriting Operations in our Fresno office. This position will supervise direct reports. Previous supervisory experience is not required but preferred. As a Supervisor, Underwriting Operations your responsibilities will include supervision of certain underwriting and claims mail procedures and functions, productivity goals and clerical tasks. This position will also assist on special projects as needed.

  • Assign new tasks, projects and training to unit members based on complexity and skill set of staff.
  • Completes regular quality audits of staff’s work, records results and counsels’ staff to bring work to or above standards.
  • Prepares regular periodic reports and monitors system reports to ensure adherence to corporate and regulatory standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Recognizing great work and creating employee engagement daily.
  • Establish and execute controls to assure that the quality of the work meets or exceeds standards.
  • Reviews and analyzes processes, procedures and workflows to identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
  • Follow up with bureau queries
  • Special projects assigned by upper management
  • Assist other departments regarding endorsement or policy issuance problems and accounting issues
  • Customer Service for agents – phone contact
  • Assist Underwriters
  • Monthly underwriting reports
  • Assists UW Manager with monitoring underwriting department, including recommendation of new hires, disciplinary actions.  Works closely with HR on all personnel issues.
  • Supervise mail room and underwriting clerical staff
  • May recruit, hire and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers and disciplinary action.
  • Manages personnel administration including employee evaluations and salary administration.
  • Manages the development and training of subordinates.

  • Exceptional leadership skills plus the ability to plan, organize, delegate and develop corporate human resources.
  • Analytical and human relations skills are critical.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to obtain information from others and deliver information to others orally and in written form.
  • Ability to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and direction.
  • Sound command of the English language.
  • Ability to operate business technology.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated and willing to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • High School Degree required. College Degree or substantial completion preferred.
  • Workers’ Compensation Underwriting experience and Claims processes knowledge not required but preferred;
  • Supervisory experience not required but preferred
  • Skills in Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Word, Excel

The salary range for this role is $68,000 to $85,000. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.
