Intermediate level Team Lead is accountable for the timely packaging of global cosmetic and OTC (over-the-counter) products according to established quality and operating criteria and standards for finished goods in excess of 15MM units per month. Acts with moderate guidance from cell managers and/or Team Lead III. Conducts research on Packaging Operations issues and makes recommendations for good business decisions. Contributes to ensuring safe working practices are followed and contributes ideas to simplify and standardize the workplace. Shares ownership in achieving world-class performance and continuous improvement on the packaging area. This role is accountable for helping to achieve strategies and goals of becoming the world-class, low-cost/high-quality producer of choice. Drives employee alignment and engagement across the value streams of the business. Responsible for developing, coaching, and mentoring team members for excellent performance. The Team Leader is responsible for providing direct leadership to the production employees in value streams, including work scheduling, assignment, employee training, production quality, and quantity requirements are met, evaluating staffing needs, administering safety, communication, team building, etc. These goals need to be accomplished safely and effectively through utilization, development, and adherence to the Mary Kay manufacturing system.

  • Leads and directs the activities of the assigned cell of Production Coordinators, Packaging Technicians, and Material Handlers/Sanitizers to effectively weigh/manufacture bulk products according to GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and production specifications. Selects, trains, motivates, counsels, and rewards subordinate staff to ensure the achievement of departmental goals. Instructs staff in the areas of quality control, general manufacturing procedures, and safety issues. Creates a specific line of sight that tells employees where we are going, how we will get there, and the expectations. Develops team to own day to day operational issues. Must work towards continuous improvement in all areas of production.
  • Inspects department areas to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices and 6S Lean Manufacturing practices. Responsible for all safety issues affecting employees, including taking action to minimize the risk of injury as needed.
  • Analyzes equipment problems to isolate specific causes (i.e. man, method, machine, materials) and participates in troubleshooting of equipment utilizing scientific methodologies such as Cause & Effect, FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis, PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act), 5 Why’s, etc.  Consult with support teams to determine the root cause and implement corrective action as necessary
  • Ensures proper equipment utilization, workforce, and materials to eliminate downtime, injuries, and/or scrap. Develops more efficient means to identify limiting factors of equipment, staffing, and materials to better utilize available resources and maximize productivity.
  • Interacts with Scheduling, Planning, Processing, Engineering, Quality, Warehousing, and other support functions to identify and resolve issues impacting product quality and/or production efficiencies. Reacts quickly to multiple situations involving production. Thinks creatively and independently in leading team efforts in resolving recurring issues. Leads change effectively in a high employee involvement and teamwork oriented environment.
  • Maintains control of the production work hours by monitoring area efficiency reports. Reviews daily production reports to maintain and improve scheduled production levels of the finished product for distribution. Develops and implements control systems, interprets information, and implements problem-solving actions and continuous improvement processes.

Full-time employment
Work Hours -
8 hrs/day - Monday-Friday (40 hrs/week)
Work schedule - 2:30 PM - 10:30 PM

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Education 

Bachelor’s degree in technical or engineering discipline.

Experience

3+  years of experience in the areas of cosmetic, food, and/or pharmaceutical packaging or processing production and familiarity with FDA regulations, current Good Manufacturing Practices, and other regulatory issues affecting product manufacturing in order to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are maintained. 2 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to understand the business and make sound business recommendations.
  • Must have a proven ability to demonstrate leadership skills in a team environment.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with subordinates and other Manufacturing personnel.
  • Must have organization, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills in order to analyze equipment problems and isolate root causes
  • Must be flexible to change shifts and/or schedules due to changing business needs.
