JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Working closely with principal investigator, manages a large or multiple smaller Research Projects.
  • Manages project related budgets, information systems, recruitment activities, regulatory requirements and equipment and space requirements.
  • Assists in developing and submitting grant proposals and advises principal investigator of changes in reporting or accounting requirements.
  • Assists with recruiting and interviewing patients/subjects, conducting tests, developing and directing surveys or making presentations.
  • Oversees the interviewing and hiring of staff involved with designated Research Projects.
  • Supervises staff by orienting, training and providing ongoing performance feedback.
  • Manages project related information systems and databases including data collection, coding, storage and analysis.
  • Assists investigator and research personnel with publication of findings.
  • Serves as project liaison to other departments, outside organizations, government agencies and product representatives.
  • Ensures the preparation of operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies.
  • May develop and administer research protocols.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • Works closely with the Principal Investigator and Senior Associate Director of Programs to complete administrative tasks related to two multiyear federal and foundation funded projects.
  • Coordinates regular Research Project meetings by developing agendas, taking notes during meetings, and ensuring tasks from meetings are communicated with team members. 
  • Supports data use agreements and contracts with individual consultants and community partners. 
  • Manages research assistants and provide overall support to research team to complete deliverables, including manuscript and conference abstract submissions.  

Youth Participatory Action Research to Prevent Community Violence among Black Youth

  • The goal of this project is to implement and evaluate an art-based, youth participatory action research multilevel intervention, Youth Empowered Advocating for Health (YEAH), designed to promote individual and collective healing processes to reduce risk for community violence among Black youth ages 12-17.  Under the direct supervision of Dr. Woods-Jaeger,  manages research procedures, including assisting in the development and monitoring of protocols and IRB submissions.  Coordinates trainings and quarterly YEAH CAB meetings. Assists in ensuring the relevance of research to the community and efficient and effective translation of research results for use by the community and provides coordination support for the development of theater performances in metro Atlanta.  During the analyses and dissemination phase, participates in developing reports and disseminate findings to our local communities. Manages an arts and health equity Applied Practicum Experience (APE) associated with this project that involves MPH students conducting formal qualitative analysis with photovoice data generated from the photovoice projects including in this project. 

Understanding the Potential of Youth Participatory Action Research to Improve African American Youth Mental Health Outcomes

  • The goal of this Research Project is to assess how an arts-based, youth participatory action research intervention, Youth Empowered Advocating for Health (YEAH) influences post-traumatic growth and healing among Black/African American youth exposed to racial trauma.  Under the direct supervision of Dr. Woods-Jaeger, oversees research procedures, including assisting in the development and monitoring of protocols and IRB submissions.  Works closely with all Co-PIs and Co-Is to align overall research procedures between two institutions (Emory and UNC) and multiple departments. Additionally, serves as the point of contact for the primary community partner, Boys & Girls Club, supporting the implementation of YEAH at the Atlanta and Kansas City sites.  Coordinates trainings and quarterly YEAH CAB meetings. Assists the Co-PIs in ensuring the relevance of research to the community and efficient and effective translation of research results for use by the community and provides coordination support for the development of short films and community forum planning in Kansas City and Atlanta.  During the analyses and dissemination phase, participates in developing reports and disseminates findings to local communities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science field or business management and three years of related management experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Highly motivated, efficient, organized, detail-orientated, independent worker and an interest or experience working on mental health, arts and health, and/or community based participatory research.
  • Familiarity with creating IRB protocols, facilitating submissions, drafting yearly reports, developing subcontracts and MOUs, monitoring budgets and expenses, and managing administrative tasks.
  • Must have transportation modes to get to community sites across Metro Atlanta.
  • Experience with the following software: Qualtrics, REDCap, MAXQDA and NVivo; Microsoft Suite of programs

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
