BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Supervisor, Emergency & Urgent Care Patient Access will supervise and participate in the operational and personnel activities of the Emergency Room or Urgent Care Patient Access departments across the health system.
Responsible for staff spanning the main hospital campus and/or multiple physical locations and rural locations in multiple counties. This may include departments 24/7 in nature such as Emergency Room, Urgent Care, or Hospital Admissions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversee the staff work and assignments for Emergency Room, Urgent Care, and/or subsequent hospital admissions to MU Health System.
Assist with, escalate, and analyze the root cause of issues that arise or impact the Emergency Services Patient Access department, Hospital Admissions, Emergency Room, and Urgent care. This could include patient throughput, patient experience, as well as stakeholder and clinical customer departments.
Collaborate with other revenue cycle departments to ensure optimal revenue cycle performance including reduction in accounts receivable, improved collections, and patient financial experience. Collaborate and work with clinical department leaders to achieve expected outcomes or initiatives. Stay current on revenue cycle regulatory guidelines, regulations, or rules, including but not limited to Medicare Conditions of Participation, federal and state regulations, and laws.
Lead team to remain patient surge ready to align with the organizational incident command and emergency preparedness plan. Conduct employee performance management including goals, delegating, feedback, and performance reviews. Provide ongoing guidance to employees through coaching and counseling. Develop training plans and ensure employees have the necessary expertise and training to function effectively. Assist management in interviewing, selecting, and training staff.
Review staff work for adherence to appropriate methods and procedures and completion of work promptly. Instruct and advise staff on changes in policies, procedures, and work standards. Monitor staff workload and productivity to meet the department workload and productivity standards. Assist in monitoring department operations and objectives to ensure quality services are being provided. Prioritize and reassign workload based on business goals and distribute tasks to team members as necessary to align with department key performance indicators.
Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.
Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes. May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervisor is received from the Assistant Director of Patient Access and Registration Services.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Functional and administrative supervision is exercised over staff of Patient Admissions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in business, social science, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
Three (3) years of experience in healthcare, revenue cycle, patient admissions, supervision, or related expertise.
