The Project Superintendent is responsible for all on-site management and field personnel from inception to completion for a specific project. The Project Superintendent plans and schedules, coordinating and managing both personnel & materials to prevent delays, complete projects on time, on budget and to specification. This position will cover the Longview - Carthage areas.
Essential Functions
- Review, understand and implement construction project documents such as contracts, plans, specifications, drawings, job layout, as-builts.
- Oversee the work to ensure compliance with the approved contract documents and maintain quality control for work performed by employees and subcontractors.
- Responsible for all aspects of safety on the job site including but not limited to safety incidents, safety equipment, and safety precautions.
- Assist in the determination of manpower and hiring.
- Determine equipment needs, equipment maintenance, tool and material requirements.
- Timely and accurately maintain and keep current construction documents; change orders, schedules, purchase orders, RFIs, submittals, daily diaries and quantity books.
- Read blueprints, construction contracts, subcontracts and other construction documents, plans and specifications.
- Ability to initiate and maintain business relationships including working effectively with owners, engineers, co-workers, subcontractors, suppliers, and the public.
- Inspect and verify the receipt or shipment of materials to and from the job site.
- Determine sequence of work and maintain a 3-week schedule.
- Manage field labor and provide field training.
- Identify long lead items which need to be expedited through the project schedule process.
- Identify problems early and act immediately to provide solutions.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years direct experience performing heavy civil construction work.
- Solid understanding of construction means and methods including costs, scheduling and quality control.
- Superior knowledge of construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of aggregate road construction/maintenance.
- Familiarity w/ environmental control/regulatory compliance measures, including erosion control, runoff prevention, and drainage control.
- Familiarity with OSHA standards and construction safety best practices as applicable to wind construction.
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Physical Demands

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Some equipment can be extremely heavy and will require a lot of strength to move or manipulate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, rough and uneven surfaces, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
