What is the position like?
This a temporary seasonal summer entry-level position. Job Coaches provide direct support for clients with developmental and physical disabilities. Job Coaches ensure clients are continually being supported toward the goal of gaining independence by being in the workforce. Job coaches provide individualized learning with clients at their place of work. Job coaches observe and coach their clients in areas where they can improve and be successful in their workplaces. Job coaches are committed to providing stability in the client's working environment. Our Job Coaches are mentors who are eager to support his or her clients and have excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
These Job Coaches will support the Summer Work Experience program (SWE). This program is expected to begin in June 2023 and will conclude in late July or early August of 2023, with the students' Work Experience lasting 6 weeks, 20 hours/week. It is Monday-Thursday during the day.
What are the primary functions?
  • Work alongside 2-6 high school students as needed to assist with meeting employer expectations with regards to task completion and speed
  • Continue to provide training to improve consumer work performance after the employer's training period has ended.
  • Problem solves to create accommodations or other ways to address performance issues.
  • Support consumers to develop and maintain relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Develop and maintain natural supports on the job and establish working relationships with the supervisor(s)
  • Understand individual participants' functional limitations and provide support as needed through working with employers and supervisors.
  • Complete paperwork including, but not limited to, weekly documentation of observations and job readiness techniques.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with employers, MERS/ Goodwill Summer Work Experience supervisor, and staff and referring counselors to report progress and difficulties with weekly progress notes submitted via MS Word/email or text/photo of handwritten notes.
  • Report students' attendance to program coordinator
  • Maintain a professional appearance matching employer's site recommended dress code, and consistently reports to work location for the assigned schedule.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices through awareness and observation.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School or equivalency required
  • Relevant Work Experience preferred
  • First Aid and CPR preferred
  • Valid drivers license, current auto insurance, and independent transportation required
