Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 17,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Safety Officer will report to the Educational Safety Specialist (ESS), Director of Crisis Intervention and Safety and/or Deputy of Facilities & Support, Safety and the building principal of the school he/she is assigned to.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise hallways during the workday;
- Report any violation of building rules;
- Complete necessary reports, as needed;
- Provide assigned building and grounds security and supervision necessary for the effective operation of the educational program;
- See to it that employees park correctly;
- Be on the lookout for burglars and car tampering;
- Prevent vandalism of cars;
- Circulate throughout the halls and check washrooms hourly;
- Be on the lookout for drugs, alcohol or any illegal substance;
- Observe incidents so that reports can be made;
- Report the following immediately to the building ESS, Director of Crisis Intervention and Safety and/or Deputy Superintendent of Operations, Safety and Facilities for fights, drugs, threats, extortion, trespassers that refuse to leave, arguments, vandalism and other related issued;
- Make ID's for students.
- Keep the students orderly and be aware of possible food fights;
- Responsible for assisting the staff in situations, which require one-on-one attention of an emergency nature.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Ability to pass the paraprofessional basic skills test administered in the Human Resources Office, 1201 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, IL 60085
Salary: Per Paraprofessional contract.
Additional Information: 8 hours per day/40 hours per week.
