Function / Position Summary
In collaboration with the Summer School Principal, supervise a Summer School program for secondary students to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment that promotes student growth. Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Equity and Innovation/Teaching and Learning Directors and Coordinators to prepare for and oversee the operation of the summer program. Oversight responsibilities include staff hiring and supervision, staff assignment, registration and scheduling, communication, supervision, student management, material acquisition, organization and site management, and program evaluation.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Ensure a successful Summer School experience for all students, staff, and families.
  • Collaborate with central office departments to prepare, plan, and implement summer programming.
  • Assist the Summer School principal and assistant principal to interview and hire all Summer School teachers and staff
  • Work with the administrative team and professional development providers to organize the agenda, prepare training materials, and deliver professional development.
  • Assist the assistant principals in overseeing the process of staffing, logistics, and communication to staff, students, and families.
  • Implement Summer School policies and provide professional development to staff and students on Summer School expectations. Update Summer School student handbook.
  • Responsible for supervision in the cafeteria during lunch periods, in hallways during transition periods, on school grounds, at school events, and on buses, to ensure student order and a safe educational environment.
  • Conduct classroom observations on a regular basis to ensure fidelity of curriculum implementation and provide coaching and feedback to teaching staff.
  • Monitor daily student attendance/tardies and supervise the procedures of the attendance office to improve student attendance and ensure compliance and alignment with school district rules and state attendance laws.
  • Follow the Student Code of Conduct when determining consequences.
  • Work with the Coordinator of Student Discipline and Alternative Placement to meet the requirements of Public Act 099-04560 (Student Discipline Policies).
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Principal, responsible for the supervision of Deans' Assistants.
  • Ensure student grades are updated on a regular and ongoing basis and coordinate intervention to ensure student success.
  • Maintain behavioral logs for each student, keeping comprehensive documentation of contacts, actions, and interventions.
  • Contact families of Students who are absent.
  • Oversee the collection and return of all designated summer materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Master's Degree in Education
  • Professional Educator License with General Administrator or Principal endorsement.
  • Successfully completed all PERA module designations required to evaluate certified staff (Teacher & Principal) (preferred), if not must successfully complete by the start of Summer School.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Five (5) years of teaching experience and two years of administrative experience and/or large-scale instructional change projects (principalship preferred).
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to present information before large and small groups.
  • Thorough knowledge of school code, state and federal laws and District policies.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records and statistics to analyze and create related meaningful reports as required by school need or assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Demonstrated interest, knowledge and/or experience in serving culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Physical Demands
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.
Terms of Employment
  • This is a temporary position. Availability after school, weekends and summer weekdays inJanuary, February,March, April, May, June and July for staffing, professional development and other administrative responsibilities is required and included in the overall salary. Preference will be given to current administrators at the host site.
Salary Information
  • $6,800.00 (includes TRS)
