The Summer Program Assistant performs varied duties relating to the Summer Recreation Programs including, but not limited to: Assisting the Recreation Supervisor and other year-round staff in clerical and administrative tasks related to the Summer programs. Assisting the Summer Program Directors in planning and preparing for the Summer Programs.
Extra hands at various functions during the Summer Programs when needed - bringing needed supplies for activities. Other varied duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Come join an exciting summer with the Northampton Parks & Recreation department.
The Parks & Recreation Department is currently looking to fill the position of Summer Program Assistant. The Summer Program Assistant will be responsible for the many moving parts that make up our day camp programs and daily operations. Assisting the different camps programs, the camp directors, and assisting the Recreation Supervisor as called for.
Supervising and being a model leader for the directors, recreation leaders, and campers. This person participates in the supervision of staff, helps plan the camps, helping with Special Events, compiling newsletters, lists and memos for each session, running various errands and working at all programs. This position oversees the Counselor in Training Program.
The Summer Program Assistant is best suited for an organized and flexible individual that is willing to jump in and take charge as needed while being a team player. Position assists program directors in all four summer camps as part of the Sr. supervisory staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications - Summer Program Assistant: Equivalent of 3 full time seasons' work experience in youth related recreation activities; or 3 years of college in a related field. Current standard first aid and CPR certification required. Training Provided.
Prior supervisory experience preferred. Requires frequent use of personal vehicle. Knowledge, Ability and Skills - Able to communicate and connect with kids of all ages, parents, and staff.
Capable of managing multiple tasks and stepping into a program and/or administrative tasks. Enjoys working with High school and college age staff, ability to work with preschool age campers, and communicate well parents and guardians. This position includes preseason and postseason work in addition to 7 weeks of camp and the 2 days of orientation.
Must be 21 years of age or older. MISC. INFORMATION $18.80 per hour.
Work Schedule: The Summer Program Assistant starts part-time in May. Full-time in Mid-June and work until August 20, 2024. Accommodations can be made for college students.
There are no fringe benefits; and no holiday pay for July 4. This position has been designated as Seasonal Positions by the Department of Unemployment Assistance and are exempt from unemployment benefits once programs end. Qualified Northampton residents will be given first consideration.
