Job Description
Gain exposure to aircraft battery manufacturing and the related support processes at Acme Aerospace. The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will work alongside production associates, maintenance technicians, engineers and the production manager to drive and support continuous improvement projects, cycle time calculations, and developing future state actions. The person in this role will wear multiple hats within the Manufacturing Engineering realm included but not limited to industrial, process, quality, tooling and lean manufacturing
Key Responsibilities (define scope of responsibility):
1. Learn and build technical acumen in battery manufacturing; hands-on participation and presence on production floor is required.
2. Conduct cycle time studies in a variety of different production areas.
3. Assist in design and building of tools and start-up of new equipment
4. Utilize six sigma methodology to troubleshoot equipment maintenance problems and determine RCCA
5. Create, implement and sustain standard work.
6. Assist in improved visual management and material flow
7. Determine future Lean projects for cost savings and improved efficiency
8. Recommend production process equipment layout to optimize productivity and efficiency.
9. Promoting lean concepts, continuous improvement and 5S practices.
10. Perform other duties as assigned
Required Capabilities (describe scope of knowledge and ability of the position):

- Work in an unstructured environment where priorities may change regularly

- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Desired Background and Experience (include education and experience required):
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
- Experience studying or using lean methodology including (Creating Yamazumis, VSM, Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma, Line Balancing)
- Strong Mechanical design skills
- Previous internship experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
- CAD Design experience preferred
- Experience with machining equipment (lathe, CNC mill, etc.)
- Experience with Robotics and Process Automation preferred
Essential Functions (physical requirements needed in order to perform job responsibilities):
- Works primarily on the production floor, with secondary time spent at a desk.
- Ability to stand on their feet for extended periods of time
- Must be able to effectively listen, understand and speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight
