Laborer Monday-Friday / 7am – 4pm – Non-Exempt $17.00 / hr
Summer - Part Time May Include Weekends & Holidays

Summary - Incumbent serves as Part-Time / Summer Laborer for the City of Warsaw Parks & Recreation Department responsible for assisting in maintaining buildings, mowing and cleaning debris and trash from property and at designated areas including beach maintenance.

Duties / Responsibilities: Maintains cleanliness and appearance of buildings and grounds, including cleaning/sanitizing restrooms and replenishing supplies, sweeping floors, dusting offices, picking up litter, and emptying trash containers. Performs construction, concrete and carpentry work as required. Assists in maintaining park grounds, including mowing/trimming grass, pruning trees and shrubs, removing fallen tree limbs, shoveling/sweeping, pulling weeds, watering plants, and raking leaves. Delivers and sets up tables, chairs, and equipment. Assists in maintaining buildings/facilities and related equipment, including painting/patching walls, caulking windows, unclogging toilets, changing light bulbs, lubricating playground equipment, repairing furniture, playground equipment and signs, assists with hanging of seasonal lights. Assists in performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs on department equipment and vehicles, such as mowers, power saws, and tractors, including washing/waxing/cleaning vehicles, checking/maintaining fluid levels, changing tires, replacing parts, sharpening blades, and lubricating. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements/Licenses: Working knowledge of and ability to properly operate various hand and power tools, such as hammers, screw drivers, wrenches, power saws, grinder, and sander. Working knowledge of grounds maintenance and ability to properly operate various related tools and equipment, such as post hole digger, pruner, shovel, rake, brush chipper, bush hog, riding and power mowers, hedge trimmers, grader, chain saw and tractor. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions, and present findings in oral or written form. Ability to work with others in a team environment, including supervising work crews as assigned.
Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and park patrons, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities. Ability to occasionally work extended, evening and/or weekend hours as needed. Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to department and city policy. Ability to maintain personal composure and tact during difficult situations. Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including but not limited to attendance, safety, and apply OSHA safety regulations applicable to work performed, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct. Must pass a pre-employment drug and or alcohol test and adhere to policy. Must be at least 16 years old.

Working Conditions: Incumbent performs duties indoors and outdoors involving occasional work on ladders, and exposure to dust, dirt, grease, fumes, adverse weather conditions, extreme outdoor temperatures, cleaning chemicals, power tools and heavy machinery, for which safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Also performs duties outdoors involving exposure to direct sun and weather conditions that include chilly and/or hot temperatures. Performs duties in a standard office and outdoors, involving sitting and/or standing/walking for long periods, handling/grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication, close and far vision, and speaking clearly.
