Summer Journey Academic Specialist    
 New York, NY

Summer Journey Overview:    
   
We anticipate programming throughout all NYC boroughs, though most positions concentrated in the Bronx, Staten Island, and Manhattan. There also may be opportunities in Long Island. We are committed to thoughtfully matching staff with their grade and location preference to the best of our ability    
   
Role Overview:     
   
The Academic Specialist (AS) will provide instructional leadership for the summer Journey program. The AS will oversee the instructional quality of the program and support staff in effectively implementing curriculum and supporting materials. Each Academic Specialist will be responsible for providing ongoing professional development and support to the staff within their assigned cohort.    
   
How you'll be there for students:    
 Be their advocate, difference maker, and mentor.    
   
Support Staff in Effectively Implementing Curriculum and Supporting Materials    
   
  • Communicate with teachers, parents, and students regarding program implementation    
  • Establish a positive professional rapport with Summer Learning Experience staff, parents, and ONPS personnel    
  • Maintain a deep understanding of effective instruction using SLE curriculum and materials    
  • Regularly collaborate and meet with Operations Specialist to share programmatic information    
  • Support Operations Specialist in ensuring operational excellence    
   
   
  • Plan and host regular cohort meetings with the Operations Specialist    
   
Develop and Refine Performance    
   
  • Attend all required professional development modules prior to program start date and throughout program (for compensation at hourly rate)    
  • Complete classroom observations for each assigned teacher throughout the SLE program, and conference with each teacher to provide feedback on classroom instruction    
  • Provide formal and informal ongoing professional development opportunities to instructional staff    
  • Use data and assists teachers in the development of instructional strategies to meet the needs of all participating students    
  • Assure that all teachers complete Catapult Learning instructional and operational training (this may require an AS facilitates training)    
   
Oversee and Document the Instructional Quality of the Program    
   
  • Report all observational data through online databases    
  • Work alongside the management team to keep open communication and report instructional issues and concerns.

  • Compensation: $55 per hour

What we'll need from you:    
The positive, enthusiastic teacher we seek has these qualifications.  
   
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.     
  • At least two years related supervisory experience in education     
  • Unwavering belief that all children can learn.    
  • Ability to navigate online platforms for record keeping and communication.    
  • Ability to fulfill and abide by all necessary requirements for employment    
  • Ability to legally work in the United States    
  • Availability to work for the full program
