Requisition Summary
Kenworth has various internship opportunities in production including assembly/cab build, material handling, and paint.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
Perform production assembly, cab build, paint, or material handling operations in our truck assembly plant. Assemble mechanical units, sub-assemblies and final assemblies having close tolerances, strict inspection and operating requirements where skills and assembly techniques may be acquired through a short-term training program plus varied assembly experience. Prepare various truck components for the paint application process. Maintain inventories and create kits of parts for assembly teams.
The position requires some mechanical aptitude and ability to learn to use hand and pneumatic/vibratory tools, torsion measuring devices, and utilize detailed build papers and engineering drawings.
Specific Duties to include:
- Install various truck components on a moving assembly line
- Fit, adjust and align to ensure free action, a proper tolerance fit and operating requirements
- Use hand and pneumatic/vibratory tools, torsion measuring devices, forming jigs and assembly fixtures
- Work from detailed build papers and engineering drawings
- Recognize obvious irregularities as to fit, defective parts, finishes and quality
- Follow detailed instructions, operation methods and procedures
- Prepare product for the paint application process by: sanding, removing oil/debris/imperfections from the raw product, and taping off product/components where paint should not be applied
- Prepare material kits of components/parts for use on a moving assembly line for production teams
Qualifications
We are looking for students currently enrolled in a degree program for Engineering, operations, Business or a related field.
Excellent candidates will possess:
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and functions
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of and ability to successfully apply Six Sigma tools and methodology is a plus
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience using hand/pneumatic/vibratory tools preferred
- Possess strong number/letter identification and recognition when working with excessive amounts of number/letter sequences
Must be able to meet physical requirements with or without accommodation to include: lift, carry, push, pull 50 pounds or more. Stand & walk 8 hours per day. Consistently work in awkward positions such as bending, squatting, working from ladders, etc.
Must be available 12-15 weeks.
