Penland School of Craft is an international center for craft education offering residential workshops, residencies, community education programs, and exhibitions. Position Summary
The Penland Dishwasher is part of the kitchen and dining hall team whose responsibility is to provide delicious, healthy meals to workshop participants during our educational programming and to do so in a way that meets or exceeds all relevant health guidelines. As such, the dishwasher must commit to learning how to handle, clean, and sanitize all the dishes, pots, and other wares according to our protocols, which are carefully developed to maintain current health and safety standards.
This position will report to the dining hall coordinator but must work independently, with only occasional assistance or supervision after the initial period of training. Above all, the dishwasher must report to work promptly and fulfill all job responsibilities during the period of employment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collects dirty dishes and pots from the Penland kitchen and dining hall, washes and sanitizes them, and returns them for their next use. At the end of each shift, the dishwasher is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the entire dishwashing area per our local health code.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and commitment to health and safety as it applies to equipment operation and materials handling regulations.
- Ability to work independently, proactively, and also collaboratively.
Physical Demands
The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls and talk fluently and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk in areas of the campus with uneven terrain. The employee must occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Compensation
The starting wage for this position is $15.00 per hour for 40 hours per week between Monday, May 19, through Friday, August 30, 2024.
