A Summer Program cook will be an employee of the Appalachia Service Project, Inc. (ASP) for a six to eight week period. They will be accountable to the ASP summer staff living at the center during the Program.
Job Responsibilities:
The summer center cook will work with a representative of the staff to:
1. Execute five pre-planned evening meals (Sunday through Friday, with Thursday night off for cooks),
and five morning meals (Monday through Friday), to be served to 84 to 120 people - unless the capacity
is adjusted by a Regional Coordinator. These volunteers will include high school and/or middle school
youth and their adult leaders, and the meals will meet ASP’s set summer program menu.
2. Work with summer staff and local food distributors to order food for daily meals, while staying within
the established budget.
3. Work with one or more other cooks to prepare the meals mentioned above.
4. Coordinate and direct volunteers in clean-up procedures.
5. Comply with all ASP COVID-19 procedures while at the center to ensure safety of ALL.
A Summer Cook will be paid by the Appalachia Service Project, Inc. for up to 33 hours a week during the time
employed by ASP. Cooks will be paid the hourly rate that they earn during the school year, unless otherwise
agreed. Bi-weekly paychecks will be mailed every other Friday after receiving a completed time sheet for
that period and should arrive the following week. Paychecks will be direct deposited into bank accounts on
the following dates: June 21, July 5, July 19, Aug 2, and Aug 16 (if cooks work through Week 8 of the
program.) Social Security and Federal income taxes will be taken from each paycheck. ASP will also withhold
state taxes from pay checks, if applicable.
