Summer Camp Head Preschool Teacher | A.C.T. Programs
Overview:
ACT Programs at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine has a rare opening for a qualified and experienced Preschool teacher to join our summer staff and teach one class of 12 mixed-age (3-4yrs) children with one assistant teacher. Shape and implement an inquiry-based camp theme curriculum filled with rich, thematic units and developmentally appropriate skills while fostering children’s curiosity, their social and emotional learning, and building their confidence, all on the magical grounds of the close.

Founded in 1971, ACT provides a safe haven where toddlers to teens from many faiths, cultures and economic backgrounds gather to learn, play and grow, as they participate in a broad range of programs among highly-trained and caring adults. ACT consistently provides children and their families with high quality services that sustain, support and enhance their ability to thrive in diverse communities. ACT offers year-round, affordable, reliable, nonsectarian and socially enriching educational programs and special events for families in and around the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the world's largest Gothic cathedral.
Qualifications:
Preschool Program (3 years old – 4 years old)
- At least two years working as a lead or head teacher
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
- Fingerprint clearance from the Department of Investigation
- All necessary workshops (child abuse prevention, family engagement, etc.)
- A Master’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood or child development with New York State Initial or Permanent Early Childhood Certification
We are seeking innovative, team-oriented teachers who:
- Create positive, trusting relationships with children, families, & colleagues
- Have strong oral and written communication skills
- Candidates must be available for camp orientation on 6/20-24/2023 from 10-5pm until prep for camp has completed. Camp session is from 6/27/2023- 8/11/2023 (40hrs a wk).
Salary: $25.00 an hour
