JOB TITLE
: Summer Camp Associate
FLSA: Non-Exempt
FT/PT: Full-Time, Seasonal
SEASONAL TERM: June 3 – August 8, 2024
SCHEDULE: 7:30am – 4:00 pm, M-F

SUMMARY
Assists the Humane Education Coordinator with the planning and preparation of a curriculum that delivers a Humane message to all ages. Participates in preparing the classroom and teaching the community about various humane topics, including animal welfare, animal legislation and animal behavior. Assists with on and offsite humane education and outreach events that promote a compassionate and caring community for all animals. Promote positive interactions between humans and animals to bring about social, emotional, cognitive and physical change.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
  • Works with the Humane Education Coordinator and team to support the on-site Pasadena Humane Kids for Animals Program, including but not limited to: Kids for Animals Club; Pasadena Humane Academy; Parent and Me: Pet Playtime; Animal Adventurer Workshops; Scout Sunday; Barks & Books; Summer Camp Programs; and special events.
  • Contributes to lesson plans and prepares the classroom for sessions. Helps Humane Education Coordinator and team to prepare for instruction by getting materials ready or setting up equipment.
  • Maintains a schedule for Camp Participants'.
  • Assists written and visual programs, events and curriculum and ensures they align with Pasadena Humane goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate registration and attendance for community programming and events.
  • Ensure a positive, educational approach to customer service to educate the public and keep animals in homes as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • HS Diploma, GED or Proficiency Certificate
  • 1 year of experience working in any of the following: youth programs, community education, or humane education.
  • 12 units in ECE units a plus
  • Experience working with youth ages 5-15 preferred. Background in elementary education, zoology, animal behavior, and animal sciences a plus.
  • Interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • First aid and CPR certification required within 2 weeks of employment (through Pasadena Humane).
  • Proficient computer applications, databases, Microsoft and Google suites, and email. Excellent phone etiquette a plus.
  • Strong sense of professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Comfortable interacting and working with domestic animals on and off-site.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with supervisor, leadership, coworkers, volunteers and the public – promoting a strong collaborative team approach.
  • Must come to work regularly and on time, foster collaborative relations with coworkers and supervisors - treating coworkers, supervisory staff, members and guests with respect, courtesy. Refrain from abusive, insubordinate and/or violent behavior.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to model Pasadena Humane’s Core Values of Learning, Integrity Collaboration and Kindness.
    • Must interact positively with supervisor, management, coworkers, volunteers, and the public to promote a team effort and maintain a positive and professional approach.
    • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

WORK SCHEDULE

Must come to work regularly and on time. Must be able to work early hours according to the needs of the department schedule, including weekends and holidays.

SCHEDULE: 7:30am – 4:00 pm, M-F

WORKING CONDITIONS
Fast-paced environment. Employees are exposed to numerous animals (living and deceased), including those with uncertain dispositions. They are required to act in a safe and responsible manner.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
