Key Responsibilities – to be tailored to the candidate
We are looking for a Summer Associate to help accelerate Trimtab’s growth at an important organizational inflection point. Our needs right now are primarily investment research and execution, communications and branding, and operations. The role would be tailored to the Summer Associate’s specific skillsets, but could include a combination of some of the following:
Investment Research and Execution
- Conducting thematic research on specific subsectors of interest, ideally leveraging the candidate’s prior experience, culminating with a final presentation to key stakeholders. Potential topics include: interventions in oceans and waterways, investment in indigenous and native communities, participatory investment processes, regenerative agriculture market.
- Sourcing new fund investment opportunities and presenting them to the team.
- Joining screening calls with managers, team pipeline meetings and any Investment Committee meetings that take place during the internship.
- As needed, assisting in the preparation of investment memos and diligence reports for the Investment Committee that are accurate, insightful, and compelling.
Communications and Branding
- Redesigning Trimtab’s investor and partner-facing pitch decks.
- Building out Trimtab’s website with latest details on the strategy, team and portfolio.
- Generating other marketing and storytelling materials as directed and/or as inspired.
Operations
- Building and managing portfolio operations systems.
- Building innovative data collection and analysis tools to facilitate investment research and efficient collaboration / partnership.
- Designing portfolio and investment reporting processes and related tools.
Role Logistics
The Summer Associate will report directly to the Manager at Trimtab, and partner regularly with Co-Founders and Senior Associate, and collaborate closely with Trimtab's key stakeholders (founding sponsors, anchor investors, Advisory Board).
This is a remote position, and we will consider candidates globally. However, we have a preference for candidates based in either the New York City or Atlanta areas. We believe consistent in-person collaboration is important.
We are particularly excited about candidates with experience in fields tangential to impact investing (i.e., climate science, graphic design, institutional investing, software engineering) who are interested in learning more about impact-first investing while bringing innovative thinking to Trimtab’s mission.
An ideal candidate will value:
- Trimtab's uncompromising commitment to improve outcomes through innovative finance.
- Working with and in diverse cultures.
- Sense of humor, flexibility, and resilience.
- Independence to drive projects and manage their own time.
Qualifications & Skills
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program: business, public policy, systems thinking, international development, design, software engineering, government, or other related fields.
- Ability to thrive and execute projects amidst ambiguity. The successful candidate will need to blend flexibility with disciplined execution in order to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality work. Trimtab is a startup fund, so your days and priorities will vary widely and include a wide array of stakeholders.
We are excited about candidates that also have experience in one or more of (in no particular order):
- Systems thinking, including systems mapping and data analysis.
- A thematic investment area, especially investing in emerging markets, science-backed interventions, democratizing investment processes, or new financial mechanisms.
- Institutional portfolio management and related operations, especially data management.
- Software engineering and web development.
- Graphic design and/or branding.
Trimtab is an unapologetically impact-first financial institution. We are a mission-locked corporation that envisions multiple strategies to deploy capital for impact outside of conventional risk/return paradigms. Our first strategy is a fund of funds that invests across asset classes and sectors in search of the highest risk-adjusted impact. Over the last twelve months, we’ve committed $10.5MM via six investments into impact-first funds and fund managers pioneering scalable, replicable models tackling critical social and environmental challenges. Trimtab is an independent entity incubated by The ImPact and Blue Haven Initiative, sponsored by a coalition of family offices, and with support from The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and Schmidt Futures.
