What you can expect as a Summer Aircraft Maintenance Trainee at West Star:

Whether you are replacing or repairing parts, troubleshooting electrical/mechanical/hydraulic and pneumatic systems or performing inspections on some of the most sophisticated civilian aircraft in the world, no day is the same. What is the same, is that each day will bring new experiences and opportunities for growth.

 

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

  • Performing general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems.
  • Removal and installation of panels and components,
  • Learning to troubleshoot and problem solve aircraft system/component issues
  • De-fueling aircraft,
  • Engine removal/installations,
  • Operating ground support equipment,
  • Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components
  • Aircraft movement and assistance in performance runs/ taxiing
  • Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

 

 

What you’ll need to bring with you:

 

Your Education:

A High school diploma or equivalent will be required. Being enrolled in an Airframe and Powerplant program is preferred. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

 

Your Experience :

Prior general mechanical knowledge is preferred.

 

Your Work Schedule:

Shift I- Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm

This program will run from May 22, 2024-August 11, 2024. Housing is provided for those selected who must relocate for the duration of the program. 

 

Your Initiative:   

We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast paced environment. A willingness to learn, receive feedback, hold yourself accountable and take responsibility will be expected.

 

Your Sense of Responsibility:      

Attend work every day as scheduled. 

Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.

Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day. 

Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.

Maintain customer oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements  

Lifts 50 lbs.

Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.

Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.

 

Mental Requirements      

Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.

Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.

Work with others in a professional manner.

 

Supervision                       

Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance.

 

Working Conditions        

The majority of work will be accomplished in a heated hangar.

Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

 

Equipment Used              

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.

Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.

Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.

Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.

 


 

The Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires employers in the state of Colorado to disclose the following information. If the position applied to is not located in Colorado, the following information may not apply. Hourly rate for this position is $18.00. Housing is also provided for those selected that must relocate for the summer duration of the program.  Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based  on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other forms of compensation include a semiannual discretionary bonus based on site performance, health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid vacation
