The Nevada Department of Education Office for Safe and Respectful Learning Environment is announcing a contract position for Project Advancing Wellness and Resilience in Education (Project AWARE) Suicide Prevention Liaison to School Districts. This position will provide a link between the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) and three school districts to enhance and expand Suicide Prevention policy, protocols, and trainings.
The position will be located in the NDE Office for a Safe and Respectful Learning Environment. This will be a contractual position hired through Manpower. The expected duration runs from date of hire through September 29, 2024, with potential long-term contractual opportunities. Salary range depends on FTE (part-time or full-time).
General duties include but are not limited to coordination of efforts, collaboration between partners, meeting facilitation, and policy advocacy.
Deliverables:
- Develop and implement district level Suicide Prevention/postvention plan.
- Provide training to all school staff, students, and families on Suicide Prevention/ postvention, crisis intervention, and stabilization.
- Ensure compliance with district Emergency Operation Plans (EOP). Ensure Suicide Prevention/postvention is included in EOP.
- Research funding opportunities using data to develop funding proposals to support programs, services, and special initiatives.
- Work with Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) and other key school-based behavioral health staff on recognizing potential signs of suicide and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in students; provide education and resources about suicide/NSSI; and work with staff to link students to appropriate screening, assessment, and treatment as needed.
- Work collaboratively with family peer partner advocates to bring youth and families into arenas where policy and practice is discussed and decided.
- Work collaboratively with NAMI Teen Text Line to expand NDE-Local Education Agency (LEA) partnerships including data sharing agreements.
- Evaluate and recommend behavioral health staffing levels needed by districts and schools, as appropriate. Facilitate partnerships with local behavioral health agencies.
- Work with community partners to identify and meet the need for onsite school-based mental health clinics.
- Co-facilitate outreach to assist school administrators in incorporating mobile response into crisis planning in order to minimize the risk of involuntary legal holds of students experiencing a behavioral or mental health crisis.
- Attend the monthly meeting of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) District and Community Leadership Team, which brings school, community, and health partners together to collaborate on initiatives promoting positive youth development.
To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited university in business, economics, education, English, math, psychology, science, sociology or related field, and one year of professional experience in an educational program area which includes experience in at least one of the following areas related to the position: communicating with diverse stakeholders across various platforms; implementing a vision for desired outcomes; facilitation and/or training experience.
