Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a well-qualified Substance Use Navigator in our Contra Costa Programs- Youth for Change and Mujeres Con Esperanza. This program serves residents primarily in the Richmond and Concord areas of Contra Costa County and specializes in serving youth and women through outreach, engagement, community-based education and prevention services.  

 

The goal of our Contra Costa Programs is to identify youth and women at risk of developing a substance use disorder and providing outreach, engagement, prevention, education and linkages to treatment where appropriate.  

 

The SUD navigator is responsible for conducting outreach at local community-based organizations, schools, faith based institutions etc, through tabling, educational workshops, networking and hosting community-based events in order to raise awareness of resources available to community members around substance use treatment and prevention. 

 

The SUD Navigator will provide intake, brief screening, individual coaching support, offer educational groups, develop activities for engaging in prosocial activities, provide information and referrals to other services based on client need, with focus on youth (12-18 years old) and to pregnant, post-partum and parenting women. 

 

Regular work hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm with program events that take place during the week occasional end time of 7:30pm on some nights. Some weekend hours are required for this position, mostly on Saturdays. Bilingual preferred. Regular commuting between Concord and Richmond is expected. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

Outreach

  • Provide community outreach through tabling, educational workshops, and networking with other providers in order to locate, identify and engage individuals eligible for services throughout Contra Costa County with a focus on the Richmond and Concord areas. 
  • Establish working partnerships with stakeholders and referral organizations including schools, Shelters, Social Service offices, behavioral health agencies, and similar. This includes participation in school-based events such as Back-to-School nights, rallies, PTSA meetings, COST meetings; and hosting presentations about services offered by La Familia to partner agencies. 
  • Maintain positive agency relations with other service providers to provide enhanced services for youth and women in Contra Costa County. 
  • Develop marketing and promotional materials such as event flyers, prepare swag bags, and community engagement activities designed to attract audience appropriate to the outreach event in question. 

Engagement 

  • Conduct initial intake and brief screening for all program participants to assess goodness of fit for continuing services with La Familia Contra Costa programs, as well as to refer to appropriate ongoing services with community-based agencies and partners; 
  • Ensure prompt follow-up with referrals received through community partners and initiate referrals and linkages as appropriate.
  • Conduct psychoeducation, prevention activities and case management through individual, group, and family engagement; 
  • Develop and implement regular and ongoing educational and prosocial activities such as workshops for clients and family members; 
  • Design workshop/ group curriculum for engaging clients based on recent trends observed within community around substance use patterns. 

Other 

  • Attend trainings and participate in events relevant to key responsibilities
  • Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areas
  • Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Current registration as Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT) through either CCAPP, CAADE or other AOD Credentialing body is REQUIRED. [Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) preferred]. Relevant experience considerations for this role could include those currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in a relevant field with SUD training and/or relevant experience may be considered
  • Bilingual Spanish/English highly preferred and desired; 
  • Knowledge of the effects of substance use, prevention and recovery/ treatment programs and principles;
  • Knowledge of and sensitive to the needs of the Latino Community; 
  • Must demonstrate ability to understand client needs and work with adult women.
  • Ability to take instructions;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Strong oral and written skills;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Ability to comprehend written material and accurately process information;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize several projects simultaneously;
  • Non-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly desirable.
  • Demonstrates and models excellent “customer service” orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at all levels within and outside the agency.
  • Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when needed. 
  • Exercises extreme discretion with the ability to hold, balance and transmit public and confidential information needed by various parties. 
  • Proficient using MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Acquires or maintains proficiency in using Google Drive products, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
  • Valid CA Driver’s license
    • Auto insurance:  Personal vehicle may be used for business related purposes; it is recommended you inform your auto insurance carrier.   
  • Current state-mandated guidelines requires employees in this position to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including booster shots.
