Job description

FREEMAN SCHOOL DISTRICT SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
SUMMARY: Teaches one or more subjects to students in public school by performing the following duties under direction of building principal.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Implements district and building philosophies and goals
  2. Implements adopted curricular programs, state standards/required assessments and provide for individual learning needs of students.
  3. Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school district.
  4. Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class.
  5. Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress. Provides for individual differences in the learning needs of students.
  6. Assigns lessons, corrects papers and homework.
  7. Maintains discipline in classroom. Provides classroom climate which is based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency.
  8. Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.
  9. Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
  10. Interacts positively with students, professional associates, and patrons of the school district.
  11. Coordinates class field trips.
  12. Attends meetings as required. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  13. Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assists pupils in selecting course of study, and counsel students in adjustment and academic problems.
  14. Assists in the evaluation of curricular programs and the selection and evaluation of instructional equipment and materials including classroom-based assessments required by state.
  15. Provides academic guidance and counseling for students under his/her direction and communicates with parents and student counselor concerning academic progress.
  16. Promotes the District's educational and accreditation goals through parent conferences and related activities.
  17. Maintains appropriate student records.
  18. Maintains and promote own personal professional growth through appropriate workshops, reading of professional materials and participating in professional development opportunities.
  19. Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Must possess a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
    2. Preference given to candidates with an endorsement for assignment (highly qualified).
    3. Must favorably pass the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
    4. Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in communicating with students, parents, staff, and community.
    5. Demonstrated success by training/experience which recognizes all children as learners.
    6. Preference given to quality current references.
    7. Must submit a complete application packet.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret appropriate curriculum materials. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents. Ability to effectively present information to colleagues, parents and administrators.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to classroom applications.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
