Substation Area Lead (Freeport)
Job Summary
The Power Delivery Substation Business Unit is currently accepting internal applications for an Area Lead (AL) with the Substation Department in our Freeport office, reporting to the Substation Department Manager in Freeport, ME. This individual will manage a team of drafters, designers, and engineers in addition to acting as the responsible project engineer/lead for projects. This is a mostly in-office position although some hybrid flexibility is available. Please note this internal-only posting will expire at close of business Friday February 2, 2024.
Roles and Responsibilities
The AL shares responsibility with the Department Manager (DM) and other AL(s) for managing the day-to-day activities of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. The AL is expected to support the DM in achieving the goals of the department business plan, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients. This position is also responsible for assisting with developing, maintaining and strengthening client relationships within the region.

o Development of substation equipment specifications
o Selection/Specification of substation equipment

o Monthly financial reporting
o Weekly and monthly resource planning

o Lunch and Learns (at least monthly)

Required Education/Experience
This is a full-time, long-term assignment needing a commitment of approximately 5 years.

- Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to:
o One-line diagrams
o Schematics
o Wiring diagrams
o SCADA
o Communications
o Conduit and cable sizing/routing
o Substation physical layouts and elevations
o Development of substation equipment specifications
o Selection/Specification of substation equipment
o Proposal development
o Construction cost estimates
o Project scheduling
o Project budgeting
o Facility studies
- Act as trusted advisor to the DM to support the Northeast Region, communicating regularly via:
o Weekly touchpoints
o Monthly reporting
- Perform or assist with managing all financial and technical aspects of performance for this Substation team, including, but not limited to:
o Timecard Approvals
o Monthly financial reporting
o Weekly and monthly resource planning
o Supporting the DM with annual business plans
o Recruiting and training new employees.
o Appraisals
o Salary/Promotion/Bonus recommendations
o Department participation in KMP
o Proposals
o Project Design Book Audits
o Lunch and Learns (at least monthly)

Required Education/Experience
- Six (6) or more years of experience in substation design
- Demonstratable leadership experience of substation project/client teams
- Demonstrated competence in client team development and growing/maintaining client relationships
- The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size
- Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others
- Ten (10) or more years of experience in substation design
- Professional Engineering License (PE) and/or proven related substation design experience
This is a full-time, long-term assignment needing a commitment of approximately 5 years.
