The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for providing psychotherapy and Substance Abuse assessments to a range of clients having mental illness, and Substance Abuse disorders. These services will be provided via telehealth or in-person. The ideal candidate will maintain a caseload of 20+ patients. Duties
· Managing all aspects of a case from date of entry to date of discharge.
· Facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.
· Collaborating with psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and departments of correction.
· Evaluating patients' physical and mental behaviors to identify behaviors that interfere with treatment and recovery.
· Assisting primary caregivers to manage addiction-related behavior.
· Develops individual treatment and recovery plans based upon assessment data and provides therapeutic interventions as necessary including the provision of on-going medication management services and treatment progress.
· Provides consultation and health education to agency staff, caregivers, and clients as it is relative to the treatment and medication needs of agency consumers.
· Maintains documentation of services including service plans, progress notes, medication informed consent, quarterly treatment plan reviews, and other required information in compliance with agency and third-party compliance standards.
· Receives medical supervision from psychiatric consultants consistent with applicable Protocol for Provision of Substance Abuse Counseling.
· Completes other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor that are consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
· Provide direct feedback to individuals, families, and caregivers regarding evaluations, treatment, and medication management plan.
Qualifications
· Associate Degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling, or a Bachelor's Degree with coursework in chemical dependency.
· Master's Degree in Counseling preferred.
· Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Certified addiction counselor, certified associate counselor – alcohol and drug certified chemical dependency counselor or certified co-occurring disorders professional.
· Previous experience with the treatment of Substance Abuse disorders.
· Familiarity with electronic health record systems like TherapyNotes would be advantageous.
· Experience with co-occurring health and mental health problems.
· In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.
