STUDENT ASSISTANT EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION
This position requires working on campus.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Wellness Center Manager, the Student Wellness Center Assistant is responsible for providing patrons and potential patrons with information about programs, services, workshops and events. Considerable on-the-job training provided at hire.
JOB DUTIES:
• Dispense information to Wellness Center patrons and potential patrons in person and on the phone regarding Wellness Center programs, services, classes, and special events
• Solicits and maintains information that may be of benefit to inquiring guests
• Relays guest concerns to appropriate personnel
• Stays abreast of information regarding SRC, USU, Wellness Center, and University programs and services
• Maintains lost and found items and coordinates drop-off to campus police conducts all financial transactions related to programs, services, classes and special events including completing financial reconciliations
• Assists in member registration and verifies membership eligibility
• Facilitates access control
• Facilitates equipment rentals
• Facilitates retail sales
• Facilitates sanitizing furniture, and light cleaning in treatment rooms and adjacent spaces
• Maintains confidentiality related to participant information per USU/SRC/Wellness Center policy and HIPAA guidelines
• Maintains knowledge of all aspects of software and associated equipment
• Conducts tours of the Wellness Center to potential members and guests
• Enforces and communicates Wellness Center policies & procedures
• Assists in initiating immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures (including 911 calls)
• Performs data entry tasks
• Maintains records and prepares reports
• Must attend required Student Recreation Center, Wellness Center and USU employee orientation and trainings as well as department specific trainings and meetings
• Represent the SRC, USU, and Wellness Center in a professional manner and act as a Wellness Center ambassador at all times with extensive knowledge of the programs, services, and facility
• Maintain positive relationships with members, guests, co-workers, and professional staff
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
• Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student
EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
• No previous experience and/or specialized education required for employment
• American Red Cross or department approved First Aid, CPR, and AED certification shall be obtained within 30 days. Training is periodically offered free of charge by the USU. Applicants unable to attend USU-sponsored training are required to obtain certification at their own expense
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU. Following an offer of employment, the appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. SUPERVISION:
Supervision is provided by the Wellness Center Manager
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Work is occasionally performed outdoors, in different climactic conditions. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule, must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of Student Wellness Center Assistant. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to climb or balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally sit for extended periods and regularly walk around building; talk and hear; be able to detect smoke, heat and subtle smells. The employee must frequently move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (if applicable). Specific vision abilities required but this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
