Position Overview
The UCO Office of Information Technology seeks an applicant for the position of Support Technician. We are looking for an enthusiastic student with a great attitude and excellent customer service skills to support faculty, staff, and students and their use of technology in the Center for Transformative Learning and other university areas. Technical knowledge or experience is preferred, and applicants should be fast learners who can absorb technical information and knowledge quickly and troubleshoot problems effectively.
Hours per Week
- Flexible Work Schedule, Monday through Friday, 8:00am-9:00pm
- Evening and Weekend work as needed
- Up to 20 hours per week during fall and spring semesters
- Up to 35 hours during semester breaks
Department Specific Job Functions
Perform computer and customer service-related duties in an office setting. Typical duties may include but are not limited to: typing, filing, answering telephones, customer service, scheduling appointments, and Microsoft Office experience.
- Responds to support requests submitted for classroom multimedia equipment and IT systems.
- Demonstrates and assists users with technology services offered by UCO.
- Performs basic troubleshooting of classroom multimedia and computing technologies.
- Assists the Technology Support team with various projects and with maintaining classroom equipment.
- Ensures that classroom equipment is in working order as classes end, and that classrooms are returned to original configurations.
- Assists with installation and replacement of equipment when needed.
- Supports use of classrooms and auditoriums by guests of UCO and outside entities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Enrollment Requirements
Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students shall be enrolled full time to be eligible to work as a student worker. Full time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.
Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Required
- Excellent verbal and written English skills
- Great attitude with a strong desire to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to quickly absorb technical information and knowledge and apply it towards troubleshooting issues
- Ability to multitask and make effective use of available time
- Able to lift/carry up to 25 lbs
- Able to work under desks or in cramped spaces
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
- Familiarity with basic computing in Windows or Mac environment
- Familiarity with multimedia or audiovisual equipment preferred
- Candidates MUST be able to troubleshoot effectively while maintaining a customer-oriented attitude
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Candidate must have knowledge of administrative and clerical systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Some knowledge of audio-visual technology and multimedia applications
- Ability to work well with others on a team
