Job Responsibilities
The Veterans Administration School Certifying Official (SCO) is responsible for the life-cycle management and process of student GI Bill Education Benefits from student admission through graduation (for both Montgomery and Post 9/11 GI Bill). Manage the processes, technology, and business practices to effectively and accurately manage GI benefits processing for College veterans and eligible students.
Job Function:
1. Under the supervision of the Director of Military and Veteran Programs, serves as the primary Veterans Administration School Certifying Official. Manages VA benefit data in compliance with Federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures. Maintains comprehensive and accurate student files on VA students in compliance with VA regulations. Responsible for the intake of documents, verification for accuracy and processing of student VA data in assigned software.
2. Advises VA students on all campuses regarding eligibility and maintaining eligibility for VA benefits; including, but not limited to, successful academic progress, credit hour requirements, changes to student schedules, and location of training or classes.
3. Provides regular communication with VA students regarding deadlines, important information, updates to VA educational benefits as well as college information related to student success, policies and procedures.
4. Responsible for communication with external VA officials for reporting and audit purposes working to ensure accuracy and compliance. Prepares and maintains required reports and documentation in accordance with the SC State Approving Agency (SAA) policies, procedures and audit guidelines.
5. Maintains comprehensive and accurate student files on VA students in compliance with VA regulations. Makes files available for annual inspection by authorized officials for recertification and maintains confidential files for three years following the student's last date of attendance. Regularly report changes in student term enrollment including but not limited to adds, drops, and withdrawals, to ensure that the VA student receives timely and accurate benefits and payments.
6. Regularly attend training opportunities including workshops, conferences and webinars to remain current and up to date with VA regulations, policies and procedures.
7. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Vice President, Student Services.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree and experience in Student Services Programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference is given to those with two years of experience in Student Services Programs working with students in higher education.
