Statement of the Job:

The Student & Residence Life/Residence Hall Coordinator serves as an integral member of the Student Affairs team and is responsible for working with the Student Affairs team to develop and implement a comprehensive program of services that support student development and retention. This position collaborates with partners from across the campus to create an engaging and robust campus life that further enhances the UMFK student experience. Responsible for developing and implementing programs, activities and events for all students that cover a broad range of topics including cultural and social diversity, community development, wellness, recreational activities, life skills, community service, environmental stewardship, and campus spirit. This person also serves as a residence hall director and leads a team of resident assistants to provide a safe livening and learning community.

 

This is a twelve-month, base budget, full-time fiscal year appointment, contingent upon successful performance.

 

Due to the nature of this position the employee will periodically work evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays in addition to the regular work week. In consultation with the supervisor the employee with establish regular office hours and adjust the work schedule as appropriate. This position requires the successful candidate to reside in on campus residential housing.

 

Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the salary for this position is $41,400 plus benefits that include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.  The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America's Well Workplace Award and offers wellness programs

 

Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Develop and coordinate campus-wide activities program including the contracting, coordination, and production of performances and events and related advertising.
  • Assist with orienting students to the university through exciting and educational experiences including planning and implementing programs during student orientations.
  • Serve as an Advisor to the UMFK Student Activities Board.
  • Collaborate with students and colleagues at UMFK and the Fort Kent community to promote tradition, involvement, and engagement through programs such as Homecoming and Bengal's Week, and assisting in the exploration of new programs utilizing the Fort Kent and local community and resources.
  • Coordinate the student organization registration and recognition process. Coordinate the recruitment and recognition of new organizations. Serve as primary contact for all student organizations.
  • Partner with the Director of Residence Life & Leadership to develop and provide training programs for all student organizations and organization leaders.
  • Maintain the online Student Organization Handbook to provide current and accurate information about UMS and UMFK policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate communication about Student Affairs' and student focused university events through the campus newsletter, weekly email, campus activities Facebook page, Student Activities webpage, and the Campus Activity Calendar. Maintain a master calendar of activities, and ensure compliance with campus solicitation policies.
  • Supervise a team 4-6 undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs)
  • Confront and document noteworthy student behavior or incidents that are in violation of UMS and/or UMFK policies and procedures.
  • Advise RA team(s) in the creation and implementation of programs and events
  • Assess individual students' needs and refer them to resources as necessary and appropriate
  • Oversee Residence Life maintenance requests and reports for assigned Residence Hall
  • Oversee Residence Life programming requests and reports for RA staff
  • Participate in senior staff Residence Life on-call rotation
  • Organize front desk operations and record keeping in Crocker
  • Assist the Dean of Students in the construction of budgets, annual reports and other required documents.
  • Participate as a member of the University community, accepting special and committee assignments and representing the University at professional and public meetings as requested.
  • Partner with the Dean to plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for areas of responsibility.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Dean of Students.

 

Budget Responsibilities: Manage and engage in responsible fiscal stewardship, including the monitoring, analyzing and reporting on student activities and other programming expenditures.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills: Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills. Must utilize a high level of creativity, innovation, and project management skills. Experience in higher education student life or activities preferred. Background in college student personnel, higher education administration, international student services, or related field an asset.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience in educational settings with some combination of the following:  student life, student programming, or international student services.

 

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling or related field by start date.
