ATTENTION: You must be enrolled in an approved Mississippi Summer Student Nurse Externship course for the summer 2024 term and have successfully completed one academic year or two clinical semesters of clinical courses in nursing.

- Interviews will begin January 26 - February 23, 2024
- You will be paired with a preceptor at MRC, and will work with your preceptor on their schedule, from May 27 -August 2.

Unit Descriptions:
Brain Injury Program – patients who have suffered a brain injury, stroke or
debility.
*Skills refined: IV therapy initiation and management, catheterizations, tube
feedings, medication administration, body mechanics, patient transfers,
cognitive retraining and behavior modification, neurological assessment, time
management, communication, organization, interpersonal skills and
patient/family education.

Stroke Program – patients who have suffered a stroke or amputation.

Spinal Cord/Orthopedic Injury Program - patients who have suffered spinal
cord injuries or received some type of orthopedic surgery.

catheterizations, tube feedings, medication administration, ventilators, body
mechanics, patient transfers, time management, communication, organization,
interpersonal skills and patient/family education.
Methodist Specialty Care Center - a 60 bed facility that provides long term specialized care for
severely disabled patients whose medical needs are too complex for traditional nursing homes.
The center serves people with severe brain, spinal cord injuries, or other debilitating diseases,
who require care 24 hours per day. A Typical resident is someone age 17-55, who is severely
disabled, with a need for total care with most or all ADL’s.
