Student Nurse Extern, Jefferson Einstein Hospital, Full-Time, Summer 2024

Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital seeks to recruit qualified Student Nurses for a Student Nurse Externship in Medical Surgical Unit, General Surgery, at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia. This opportunity is located at Jefferson Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia. This is an 8-week program, full-time, starting in June 2024. The Student Nurse Externship is 72 biweekly day or night shift hours, with rotation. Weekends are required, per the preceptor's schedule.

As a Nurse Extern, you will be responsible for the following:

• Performs specific tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse.
• Demonstrates accountability for assigned patients on shift or assignment.
• Seeks out learning opportunities and guidance from appropriate individuals.

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Externwill carry out routine patient care assignments, work in controlled care situations, and perform established nursing procedures for individuals or groups of patients.

Qualifications include:

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing program required.
• Satisfactory completion of a medical-surgical clinical nursing course.
• One semester of patient care in a hospital/ skilled nursing unit required.
• Students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.2.
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Standard Precautions.
• Excellent written and verbal skills required.
• Proficiency with computer data entry required.
• CPR certification through the American Heart Association required.

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson’s clinical entities or at the University. If you are not currently vaccinated you will be required to receive the vaccination prior to hire date if you are offered employment, unless you request and receive an approved medical or religious exemption from Jefferson.
