Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT Intern performs responsibilities as a member of a patient care team to provide services that contribute to meeting the health care, safety, comfort needs of patients.  The responsibilities and services are performed in accordance with regulations and hospital standards, policies and procedures.  These responsibilities may vary based on the Business Unit Responsible for ensuring patient satisfaction including family, physician, others, maintaining patient confidentiality and being sensitive to the age specific patient needs for comfort, privacy and generalized care.  Incumbents of this position needs to meet annual competency requirements specific to their area(s) of responsibility.

Reports to Unit Manager.

·       Responsible for performing routine functions related to the care and well-being of the patients

·       Monitors, cleans and restocks equipment and supplies as needed.

·       Assists in the organization of the Pre-admission Test process and directs or assists patients through various phases or locations of the test process.

·       Provides a variety of tests and/or services in order to obtain vital patient information related to their on-going care and treatment plan. 

·       Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting and appropriate documentation of relevant patient information.  This includes immediate notification of unexpected patient changes to appropriate nursing staff for interpretation.

·       Participates in staff meetings, educational programs and in-service meetings to maintain competencies.

·       Complies with hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, attendance, sexual harassment, dress code, corporate compliance, confidentiality and others.

·       Attends all required in-service programs and completes mandatory education programs in a timely fashion.  Perform other related functions within the scope of responsibilities.

·       Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

·       Must be 17 years of age or older required

·       Must currently be enrolled in a trade school with a focus on Healthcare.

·       Pursuing High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred

·       Upon graduation of high school, PCT Intern must reapply as a PCT.

·       Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information in English required

·       Certified Nursing Assistant certification required

·       Minimum of 8 hours per week to maintain Per Diem status required

·       Minimum 24hrs/week for the 6 weeks during initial onboarding/orientation required

·       May be off up to 2 weeks per 6 months period

·       Minimum of 1 weekend shift per month required

·       Bilingual preferred

·       Previous patient care experience preferred

·       EPIC experience preferred.

·       Basic cardiac life support.

·       Basic math skills.

·       Basic computer skills.

·       Ability to use proficient communication with members of the healthcare delivery team and with patients.

·       Ability to read and understand medical terminology.

·       Ability to learn and apply 12 Lead EKG/telemetry lead placement (unit specific).
