Job description

Summary
Over the course of 8-10 weeks, the Bioinformatics Student Intern will join the Carter Lab efforts to understand the molecular basis of Alzheimer's disease. The successful candidate will analyze multi-omic data sets in mice and humans to identify the biological processes that drive dementia and determine which mouse models might serve as preclinical platforms for precision approaches to Alzheimer's treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Machine learning methods to identify key drivers of disease through the integration of molecular and physiological data.
  • Cross-species data analysis to find common disease signatures in big genomics data.
  • Scientific computing to create analysis scripts that operate in high-performance computing environments on large data sets.

Desired Qualifications
JAX encourages applications from a diverse mix of educational backgrounds and experiences. Preferred qualifications include:
  • Must be enrolled in a college or university program
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, Computer Engineering
  • Familiarity with large genomic data sets
  • Experience in scientific computing
  • Knowledge of statistical modeling
  • Experience in analyzing Alzheimer's disease data

The hourly rate is $17.50 - $25.00. Hourly rate will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
