Job description

Works with: Master Instructor, Stage Directors, Performers

Duties may include but are not limited to:

Preparations before the beginning of the program:

  • Read and become familiar with the Script(s)  
  • Meet with the Director(s) to understand vision(s) for the scene(s)
  • In coordination with the Stage Manager, arrange fittings for the cast to be measured.
  • Assemble a "show bible" to consolidate all pertinent information to the preparation of costumes: contact sheet, measurement sheets, costume sketches/images, fabric swatches, research materials, rental information, etc.

Program Activities:

  • Arrange for borrowing privileges with local companies
  • Assist in pulling costumes
  • Unpack any borrowed/purchased costumes, taking note of cleanliness and damage; documenting any issues or concerns.
  • Assist with online and in town purchasing.
  • Track all production expenditures
  • In coordination with the Stage Manager, arranging for fittings of all costumes
  • Hold individual costume fittings with each actor
  • Complete any alterations.
  • Providing rehearsal costumes for the performers, as requested by the Director or Stage Manager

Preparations for performance:

  • Making sure the dressing rooms are set up properly, prior to first dress rehearsal
  • Hold a costume parade for each director before dress rehearsals and integrate notes/changes before first dress rehearsal
  • Oversee the inventory of costumes after each performance and ensuring that all costumes are properly stored.

Preferred skills:  

  • Basic hand and machine sewing skills.
  • Experience working in a costume shop (professional or educational)
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with production team
  • Must be organized, able to work independently, and possess good time-management skills
  • Good written and spoken communication skills

Timetable:

  • Pull costumes from IC stock between May 1- May 12 (before semester end)
  • Pull costumes from R2P &/or CRS, etc. (before program start)
  • Fittings between May 21- June 2
  • Tech/Dress/Performance June 6- June 9
  • Postproduction:
  • Collect/Repair/Clean/Return June 10-12 

June 11, 2024 - Return/Restore  

Compensation:  $14.60/Hour @ 96 Hours
