Job Description:
Basic Function and Responsibility:
The Student Care Coordinator primarily works with emerging, urgent or unexpected student situations involving medical, behavioral, mental health, or personal crises that impact students' well-being and ability to successfully function in the College community. The Student Care Coordinator also provides direct support to the college's equity-based programs and initiatives. The position supports both the larger student body and serves as a liaison for the students in the Emory Williams Academy.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Respond, assess and follow up as needed with students for routine, urgent, and emergency situations involving student safety and well-being.
2. Provide crisis intervention and/or management, as appropriate.
3. Help facilitate a student's access to, and appropriate utilization of, College and/or community services.
4. Serve as a primary point-of-contact for coordinating and facilitating both internal and external resource referrals for students with Care related needs.
5. Establish and maintain close working relationships with the Office of Student Affairs, including:
- Counseling and Health Services,
- Access & Disability Resource Center,
- Campus Police,
- Office of Access, Equity and Student Responsibility,
- College Threat Assessment Team
6. In addition, the Student Care Coordinator develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies and resources.
7. Provide training and consultation for faculty and staff related to working with students in distress.
8. Plan and conduct programs to promote prevention and awareness, inform campus groups on services and referral processes, and promote health and wellness initiatives.
9. Assess needs for assistance for students in the Oakton Academy for the students of Marginalized Communities:
- Serves as a primary point of contact to students as enter and navigate the college and the academy
- Maintain case records and referrals from the academy.
10 Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree is required, preferably in counseling, psychology, social work or related field. 2. Licensed mental health practitioner (LSW, LPC, LCPC, LCSW).
3. At least one year working in community mental health agency and knowledge of Chicagoland service providers/agencies.
4. Experience working with clients/students with mental health concerns, including risk and threat assessment
5. Crisis intervention/management experience.
6. Previous experience working in multi-disciplinary groups or teams and/or inter-departmental communication and coordination.
7. A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, including:
- The ability to technically and thoughtfully document and follows up with Student Care matters.
- The ability to design and present educational programs and to make presentations to groups of various sizes.
- Must be able to give and receive advice and opinions and interact with individuals in situations requiring sensitivity and tact.
8. Demonstrate cultural competence and a commitment to building and maintaining relationships with multi culturally diverse students and colleagues. This includes prior experience, an ongoing commitment, and relevant ability to engage and work with a multi-culturally diverse student population.
9. Ability to utilize a keyboard to enter, maintain and manipulate data in a personal computer is required.
10. General office environment. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Supervision Received:
General employment supervision is received from the Senior Student Care Coordinator and Dean of Counseling, Health and Wellness.
Consultation regarding assessment and crisis response, along with accompanied decisions or actions will be available from Counseling and Health Services, Campus Police, Access, Equity and Student Responsibility, and/or College Threat Assessment Team staff, as needed.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision may be exercised over student employees.
HOURS: Monday - Friday - 8:15 am - 5:00 pm Hours may vary due to the needs of the College.
SALARY: $72,525
