Student andFamily Expanded Learning Site Coordinator
Purpose Statement:
The job of Student andFamily Expanded Learning Site Coordinator is done for the purpose/s of facilitating and managing the Expanded Learning opportunities for students and families at a school site, including before and after school programs. Program implementation is in coordination and collaboration with other staff in similar roles,along with school and district administrators.
Responsible for the day-to-day enrichment programming outside the school day. Position plays a key role in creating positive relationships with students, families, and community partners who participate in the program as well as providing consistent and effective communication with program and school day staff.
The position will supervise and evaluate program staff.
The program focuses on creating meaningful connections to the school day in core subject areas and SEL skill development for historically underserved students, and Family engagement.
Essential Functions
  • Coordinate the development of a culturally responsive high quality before and after school program that are connected to content standards, school day instructional priorities, and district goals
  • Collaborate with program team to create and implement a cohesive experience that includes opportunities to engage in literacy, math, SEL, health/wellness, and language development
  • Facilitate and manage before and after school student programs activities that incorporate student interests, cultural diversity, required instructional content, safety drills and procedures, communication, and daily data collection for district, state, and federal reports
  • Collaborate with program team and school leadership to provide and support meaningful family engagement opportunities
  • Maintain a clear and consistent line of communication with program staff, administration, and families/caregivers, including in person, phone, communication app, flyers, and emails
  • Access and use a variety of technology and software programs for student activities, reporting, and communication
  • Participate in program assessment and reflection to develop and monitor goals
  • Develop and manage the site's program budgets
  • Prepare written materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, newsletters, flyers) for the purpose of documenting activities, grant updates, and/or conveying information
  • Organize and maintain a variety of electronic records (e.g. student attendance and progress, and fiscal expenditure reports, staff time and attendance, family engagement) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and provide feedback and recognition to program staff
  • Develop work schedules for program staff (i.e. tutors, volunteers, substitutes, school day staff) for the purpose of providing adequate coverage with identified activities
  • Manage program staff in coordination with building administration (i.e.. teachers, volunteers, instructional assistants, work study students, and limited duration tutors) for the purpose of guiding and monitoring their activities
  • Participate in required program team, staff, and community partner meetings and training
  • Collaborate and coordinate with district and school program teams to develop, implement, and track program staff training and review feedback
  • Facilitate ongoing staff training based on scheduled content (i.e. culturally relevant practices, language development, SEL, literacy, positive behavior supports, community/school based training materials, family education and/or training, intervention), staff feedback, and observations
  • Model engagement strategies for the purpose of developing or increasing knowledge and ability to improve student literacy, math, SEL, and language skills.
  • Coordinate and manage daily routines and procedures (i.e. arrival and departure procedures, community circle, positive behavior expectations, transitions, health/safety and behavior response, end of day pick-up to ensure staff and families adhere to pick up policies)
  • Participate and support school and district family engagement events
  • Coordinate and manage daily program operations (i.e. staff and student schedules, attendance, program activities, communication with school day staff and Family/caregiver, health, safety and behavior practices
  • Evaluates student injuries, determines course of action, performs minor first aid in compliance with District policies and completes required paperwork in a timely fashion
  • Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor(s)
  • Complies with District policies and procedures, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations

Other Functions
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks and occasional need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include communicating with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; preparing and maintaining accurate records; planning and managing programs/grants; and operating standard office equipment including Google and Word based system and pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: concepts of grammar and punctuation; organizational skills; stages of child development; parent education issues, post-secondary options; codes, policies, laws and regulations related to vocational training for special needs populations; and principles of directing and motivating students.
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with individuals and/or groups from diverse backgrounds; work with data of varied types and/or purposes. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; practicing culturally responsive practices; maintaining confidentiality; dealing with changing priorities; working with frequent interruptions; leading and working as part of a team; working with detailed information; directing and motivating students; managing and motivating staff; meeting deadlines and schedules; working effectively with students, staff and community; and using a variety of technology based programs on a daily basis.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include program development and management at a school site; supervision of program staff; alternative work schedule.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally the job requires 15% sitting, 60% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Required:
Three years' experience in youth programs such as academic enrichment, visual/ performing arts, health/nutrition, technology, sports/recreation, etc.
College level courses (48 units) work in education, recreation, psychology, health, or other related fields.
Proficient computer skills, including Google and Word programs
Experience creating and managing academic and/or enrichment programs for small and large groups of children (i.e. classroom teacher, summer camp, before or after school programs, school day classified staff man; event management)
Preferred/asset:
Experience teaching/training instructional and engagement strategies for literacy, mathematics, SEL and/or language
Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures and populations.
Bilingual - English and Spanish
