Summary
Under general supervision, provides tutoring and counseling and serves as an advocate for Ak-Chin Indian Community students.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience equivalent to three years full-time tutoring, teaching, counseling or closely related work with children; OR a Bachelor's degree in Education or closely related field. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete a background check.
Examples of Duties
- When necessary. assists students with studying for a variety of subjects in individual and small group sessions.
- Makes home visits to counsel students and family members regarding academic deficiencies, study habits, attitude and related personal and educational issues.
- Makes recommendations for counseling, health, and other family support resources.
- Meets with teachers and participates in parent-teacher conferences upon request to help resolve educational-related issues and problems for Ak-Chin students.
- Maintains records and prepares reports regarding education orientated activities, student progress, monthly department activities and other records and reports as needed.
- Review student assessment scores for follow up with school staff and families.
- Observes students in classroom setting to get better understanding of individual needs.
- Serves as an advocate on behalf of Ak-Chin students to maximize their educational opportunities.
- Monitors Ak-Chin Indian Community academic related programs per assigned grade level.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements
- Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of elementary and secondary education.
- Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of educational and social counseling and providing basic counseling to parents and students.
- Knowledge of a variety of basic educational subjects, including reading and mathematics.
- Knowledge of a variety of local/State educational and social services oriented agencies/organizations.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals in the education community.
- Skill in assisting students with understanding/learning a variety of basic educational subject, including reading and mathematics.
- Skill in assisting students in learning effective study habits and appropriate attitudes toward education.
