Requirements: At least 3 years experience with fitting and welding of structural and miscellaneous steel
Position Summary:
- Use handheld wire feed gun to weld Structural Steel components together using fillet, partial pen or full penetration welds according to detail drawings.
- Weld fabricated steel components to assemble Structural Steel such as columns, beams, braces, trusses, and plate girders according to detailed drawings and knowledge of welding
- Perform related tasks such as flame cutting, arc gouging, and grinding.
- Requires knowledge using varied welding skills, with an ability to perform well with production goals and deadlines.
- Review, read and comprehend Structural Steel detail prints, section vies, multiple prints, weld symbols, and bill of materials to determine best fitting sequences.
- Mark and/or tag material with weld stamp identification, proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
- Complete all work is completed to meet 626 quality standard work procedures and contract specifications.
- Align and secure parts into position, manually or by using hoists, cranes, jacks, turntables, wedges, drift, pins, pry bars and/or hammers, according to specifications.
- Follow direction from supervisor, lead person, checker, and quality control personnel.
- Follow all safety procedures, including wearing proper PPE for the work being performed, operate all machines and equipment safely and always maintain safe work habits.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from any debris.
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials and notify supervisors.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to weld steel components, using processes such as flux-cored arc and/or welding.
- Monitor the pre-heating, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
- Examine and inspect welds for defects, make necessary repairs as required.
- Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc gas, metal arc welding equipment, power chipping gun, rose bud torch, portable grinder, air arc gouger and scraper.
- Understand and determine required equipment to follow all welding methods and procedures.
- Weld components in flat, horizontal, vertical, partial pen and full pen with U.T and X-ray quality using FCAW and SMAW
