- Description of Work
This position is within the Structural Pest Control and Pesticides Division.
This individual will enforce provisions of the North Carolina Structural Pest Control Act and Regulations, as well as the federal pesticide law. This position interacts directly with the Structural Pest Control industry and helps to provide consumer protection in North Carolina concerning Structural Pest Control operations.
Duties include but are not limited to significant public contact in responding to consumer inquiries about the methods and quality of Structural Pest Control applications; inspecting records, equipment, and facilities and treatments conducted by licensed Structural Pest Control operators, certified applicators, and registered employees of licensees. Routine inspections of Structural Pesticide applications for the proper treatment of structures for wood destroying organisms, applications, and methods performed for household Pest Control and structural fumigation practices. Inspections are performed on written records, equipment, and pesticide storage. Investigate possible misuse of pesticides, environmental sampling, and emergency responses to pesticide incidents are also conducted.
This position helps administer the Structural Pest Control certification and licensing examinations, performs training presentations as needed, and conducts the registered technician training program. Vehicle, laptop, Internet, and cell phone are all provided for job-related work. This position requires the ability to perform strenuous activities, such as crawling in confined spaces, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing. The candidate needs to be able to see well with limited light and must be able to operate a motor vehicle for long periods of time during the day.
This is a field position with a home-based office. State-owned vehicle provided for work travel.
Must reside in one of the following counties: Alleghany, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Iredell, Stokes, Surry, or Yadkin.

- Experience interpreting laws, regulations, or policies.

- Must be able to pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test within 3 months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire.
- Experience applying pesticides.

- Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.
Bachelor's degree in pest management, entomology, horticulture, biology or a closely related life science from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Supplemental and Contact Information
