FITTER - GREENSBURG, LA
Position Summary: Responsible for assembling subparts into completed assemblies before welding, following blueprints, work orders, or oral instructions under direct supervision.
Duties:
- Perform fitting tasks under immediate supervisor's direction
- Assess blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Organize work orders and prepare accurate daily reports
- Conduct measurements, layout, and fitting tasks per drawings
- Provide visual quality assurance
- Operate various equipment and tools
- Cut, drill, bevel, and grind subparts for a quality end product
- Move and organize material as needed
- Maintain a clean and orderly workstation
- Install temporary bracing to prevent distortion during welding
Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Basic shop mathematics knowledge
- Experience in heavy structural fitting and fabrication
- Proficient in reading blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols
- 1-2 years Structural Steel fitting experience
Safety Requirements:
- Adherence to safety rules and procedures
- Maintain an orderly and clean work area
- Attend required safety meetings
- Daily inspection of tools and equipment
- Proper use of personal protective equipment
- Specific PPE for tacking and cutting steel with a torch
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Occasional lifting of tools, equipment, or materials up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional bending, squatting, or crouching
- Frequent handling of tools, equipment, or material
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
Wage: Depending on Experience and Fitter Classification

Fitter Classifications:
- Class A: Highest knowledge, skill, and productivity; capable of fitting complex fabrication; often functions as trainers & leaders
- Class B: Maintain production with minimal errors; capable of fitting heavy beams, columns, and standard connections
- Class C: Entry-level fitters; capable of independent work; must maintain reasonable production with minimal quality levels.
