STRUCTURAL DESIGN ENGINEER with a minimum of eight years of post-graduate experience related to the analysis and design of steel, masonry, concrete, and wood structures. Must be capable of taking a project design from conception to bid documents – define building structural requirements, define and calculate anticipated loads, define and analyze structural options, prepare plans and detail drawings, prepare specifications, review shop drawings, and respond to RFIs. Proficiency with RAM Elements, RAM Structural System, and AutoCAD is required as is sound knowledge of relevant codes including IBC, AISC, ACI, NDS, and ASCE. Professional engineering licensure in at least one state with the ability to secure licensure in New York State within three months is mandatory. Proficiency with Revit is a plus. The location of employment is Watertown, Ithaca, Saratoga Springs, or Rochester, NY.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs engineering roles and responsibilities required to provide complete and accurate design of various projects in a timely fashion.
- Provides mentorship and guidance to junior level engineers.
- Delegates project work to SE I’s as needed.
- Manages and/or prepares construction drawings, specifications, calculations, applications, and other documents as required to gain approval from regulatory agencies and project owners in a timely manner.
- Reviews project documents produced by junior level engineers and confirm adherence to applicable codes, standards, design requirements, and client requirements by verifying calculations, reviewing project plans, specifications, etc.
- Provides input and makes recommendations to supervisors on the approval of junior level engineer’s work.
- Assists with conducting studies to identify engineering problems and assess the potential impact of projects.
- Confirms adherence to construction specifications by monitoring project progress, observing construction activities, and verifying calculations and placements.
- Produces or reviews initial drafts of engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, cost opinions and schedules.
- Create official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions.
Supervisory Duties:
- Oversees and manages SE I’s.
- Recruits, hires and trains staff.
- Evaluates employee performance and recommends or initiates promotions, transfers and disciplinary action.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Stay abreast of industry technology and developments including knowledge of local codes.
- Accomplishes all other duties and tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- PE Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- REVIT(preferred) proficiency.
- Structural design software proficiency. (Ram Structural System, RAM Elements, Autodesk ROBOT, Enercalc).
- Ability to translate client ideas into visual and/or tangible references such as drawings or models.
- Team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn from higher level engineers along with providing mentorship to junior engineers.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, including ability to present to others in small and large group formats.
- Excellent project management skills, with ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities effectively, while delivering quality work on time.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a priority on cost effectiveness and client satisfaction.
PAY RANGE:
- $70,000 - $110,000 per year depending on experience and licensure.
