Position Summary
The Merchandise & Retail Events Coordinator has the responsibility to help lead the operations and Retail Events at the Wisconsin History Makers Space (WHMS) store, which is a dynamic, new transition space pop-up store that will operate while the new Wisconsin history center is being constructed. The individual in this position reports directly to the Retail Director under general supervision and is responsible for merchandise management, coordinating Retail Events with the Public Programs Manager, and for providing store staff leadership at this new location. This position requires employees to perform retail and guest services responsibilities.
Duties:
- Provide day to day direction for retail sales associates on store point-of-sale functions; including but not limited to functions for: opening and closing, counting cash, checks, and other tenders, and basic sales and return functions.
- Develop store maintenance task lists (cleaning, stocking, receiving merchandise, etc.) for store associates and ensure follow through.
- Ensure store staff appropriately receive, tag, and stock new merchandise, and keep the stockroom space well-organized and clean.
- Assist Retail Director to determine optimum product mix and amounts of merchandise offered for sale based on visitor demand, regional trends, and the educational mission of the WHMS store.
- Consult with Retail Director to locate sources and suppliers for WMHS store to establish optimum costs, availability, delivery, and services. Confer with sales representatives, wholesalers, and publishers to negotiate prices, discounts and to place orders. Setup items and purchase orders in the point-of-sale system, as needed.
- Plan effective merchandise display techniques and layouts. Revise store layouts and displays as necessary.
- Work with Public Programs Manager to plan and execute retail-related programs and events designed to promote the WHMS store and products. Provide detailed written communication of event plan overview for approvals with leadership teams in advance of all events. Responsible for coordinating and assisting in the development of events including planning logistics, production, setup and post-event follow through.
- Organize special Retail Events such as holiday sales, product launch/trunk show events, or product or artist/maker spotlight events.
- Develop content for social media posts and promotions for Retail Events and products. Responsible for generating content (images, videos, etc.) for social media and coordinating with Social Media Manager for content posting.
- Attend Wisconsin History Makers Space and Retail program staff meetings.
Salary Information
Pay range is $16.00 - $18.00 per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 07-04.
Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.
Job Details
A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 20 hours per week. Work hours are between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Some occasional evening hours for special events.
Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.
Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.
WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.
Qualifications
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Experience in cashiering, retail, and/or other cash handling work
• Ability to function and cooperate in a team environment
• Ability to work independently without supervision
• Ability to problem solve and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Maintains a hardworking, positive attitude
• Able to stand for up to 1 hour and able to lift up to 40 pounds
