Responsibilities for the Sterile Technician position include:
- Preparing Treatment Rooms: Sterile technicians are responsible for setting up treatment rooms with the necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies for dental procedures. They ensure that everything is organized and ready for use.
- Sterilization of Instruments: One of the most important tasks of a sterile technician is to sterilize dental instruments and equipment to prevent the spread of infections. They follow strict protocols for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing instruments using autoclaves and other sterilization methods.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Sterile technicians are also responsible for cleaning and maintaining dental equipment and instruments. This includes routine cleaning, lubrication, and inspection to ensure that everything is in good working condition.
- Inventory Management: They may also be responsible for managing inventory and ordering supplies to ensure that the dental office has an adequate supply of sterile instruments and equipment.
- Compliance with Regulations: Sterile technicians must adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations and guidelines, including those set by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
