First Hill Surgery Center, Part of Optum is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join their team per diem to work in an ambulatory surgery center setting in Seattle, WA.
SPECIFIC SCHEDULE: Variable evening shift 6:00 PM-2:00 PM (no weekends)
LOCATION: First Hill Surgery Center
The Sterile Processing Tech functions as an integral member of the team and is responsible for performing technical tasks that support clinical operations. The focus of this position is the decontamination and reprocessing of instrument sets and reusable sterile supplies. Included responsibility is the preparation of case carts for upcoming day’s surgery.
The Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for and not limited to:
Maintains and updates instrument sets and reusable sterile supply lists.
Responsible for the proper cleaning and sterilization of individual instruments/sets.
Ensures all loaner instruments/sets are properly identified and cared for.
Ensures all loaner instruments/sets are returned to the proper institution/vendor in clean and/or sterile condition.
Performs semi-annual physical inventories on instrumentation.
Immediately removes any damaged instrumentation from service and communicates such with appropriate individuals.
Maintains all autoclave, washer-decontaminator and all sterilizer load documentation.
Monitors and documents all biological testing.
Immediately reports any discrepancies or positive results in required testing to the appropriate individual.
Inventories and maintains prescribed levels of sterile and non-sterile supplies for the Operating Room as assigned.
Participates in preparation of the next day case cart supplies and distributes carts to the Operating Room in a timely manner.
Participates in timely delivery of instruments/supplies for in‑progress cases by being alert to the needs of the Operating Room and being responsive.
May assist in the transport of instruments from the Operating Room to decontaminate in a timely manner to assure all instruments are cleaned and sterilized before they are needed.
May assist in the turn-over of Operating Rooms as needed.
Maintains current knowledge of all CS/Instrument Room policies and procedures.
Adherent to standards of practice/infection control for CS/Instrument Room and Operating Room.
Completes all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner.
Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for the Center.
Demonstrates competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities.

Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed. Based on the OSHA guidelines for protection against occupational exposure to Hepatitis and HIV, this position is described as Category I. This means that this position has exposure to blood and body fluids. Policies are in place for Universal Precautions identifying risks and appropriate barrier protection.
Preferred Experience and Credentials
Education:
HS graduate or equivalency required.
Certification/Licensure:
Central Processing Tech Certification preferred.
Experience:
Working knowledge of all phases of instrument decontamination and sterilization/central processing to include but not limited to theory, practice, standards.
