Job Description: Sterile Processing Technician/Tech
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, patient care equipment and re-useable medical/surgical items. This position also functions as a Case Cart Attendant for the Operating Room.
Essential Generic Job Functions(List in order of importance):
1. Receives, sorts, processes, assembles or sterilizes both patient care equipment and surgical instruments according to established departmental policies.
2. Understands all detergents and disinfectants used to process items. Implements both Universal Precautions and proper use of P.P.E.
3. Operates and loads sterilizers (Steam, ETO, Sterrad and Steris) and assures biological tests and Bowie Dick tests are correctly performed, incubated, read and recorded.
4. Assures sterilization records are completed correctly by recording all item processed, making sure the correct label/load gun is used, reading and interpreting chemical integrator per load, observing and initialing all computerized print outs for accuracy.
5. Adheres to correct use of computerized instrument count sheets.
6. Prepares case carts for delivery to room by using doctor's preference information to assemble required instruments, drugs and special equipment.
7. Notifies nursing team in room of missing items and confers with coordinator about shortages of supplies and equipment and completes a daily checklist.
8. Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 60 lbs. and stands length of shift.
9. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
Education Required:1. High school diploma or equivalent. Required
Certification/Licensing:1. National Certification: CRCST or CBSPDT
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1-2 years of Acute Care Experience-
Knowledge of Orthopedic Instruments & Loaner Instrumentation
Implementation to Instrument Tracking System
Ability to read, write, and understand English
Schedule Notes:10:30 PM - 7:00 AM (5x8's) 13 week assignment
- Every Other Weekend
- Required Holidays-1 major+1 minor Required.
