Position Summary:
Responsible for decontamination and reprocessing of instruments and reusable sterile supplies. Responsible for preparation of case carts, support maintaining surgeon’s preference cards and assisting with appropriate materials inventory levels.

Essential Job Duties:
- Must maintain confidentiality in all clinical activities and communication.
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations in dealing with physicians, patients, co-workers, and customers in a professional and confident manner.
- Responsible for checking the OR schedule daily. Maintain, troubleshoot, and assume responsibility to ensure that instrumentation and supplies are available as needed for cases.
- Advise Director of Nursing of equipment/instrument concerns that would necessitate cancellation of surgery for the following day or days.
- Maintains and updates instrument sets and supply lists.
- Assemble and wrap instrument sets accurately.
- Responsible for cleaning, sterilization, and repair of instruments and sets.
- Works collaboratively with OR staff and Director of Nursing to organize loanerequipment and instrumentation. (Including ordering, receiving, sterilizing, and returning of equipment and instrumentation as appropriate).
- Assist in turn-over of operating rooms as directed, including timely turnover of instrumentation needed for other cases.
- Anticipates and responds to needs of OR rooms to ensure case flow.
- Organizes and maintains case carts, supply carts and cabinets to have ready for next day’s cases, utilizing surgeon preference cards to pick cases.
- Maintains supplies, instruments, and medication in core and sub-sterile mini-cores including adequate par levels, ordering and rotation of supplies and instruments. Maintenance of autoclaves and warmers per policies. Includes stocking, receiving, and inventorying of supplies and instruments.
- Assess and identify compromises in sterility of supplies and equipment, following through with appropriate action.
- Able to operate all autoclaves, washer-decontaminators, steris machines, ultrasonic cleaners and sealers utilized in the surgery center.
- Responsible for maintaining load and biological testing documentation on all autoclaves, washer-decontaminators, and steris.
- Maintain cleanliness in all work areas.
- Knowledge of emergency equipment location, offer assistance in emergent situations.
- Recognize and take action on potentially unsafe acts and conditions.
Additional Job Duties:
- Adhere to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for Infection Control, safety (OSHA), attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Provide ongoing education to Center staff on SPD competencies.
- Attend employee meetings and in-services as required by Director of Nursing.
- Flexibility to work within multiple areas of Everest Surgical Institute
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate
- Certified in CPR
- Ability to learn and retain information and procedures
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and display professional appearance
- Prior SPD experience
- Certification of completion for SPD
- Basic computer skills preferred
- Must be responsible and accountable for his/her judgments, actions, and competence
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
· Frequent mobility and /or sitting for extended periods of time, some bending and stooping required
· Manual dexterity
· May be expected to lift 40 pounds without assistance. Is expected to obtain assistance as needed.
· Physically capable of listening and understanding OR personnel wearing routine OR attire, i.e. masks
· Physically capable of reading and reviewing handwritten notation and directives.
· Physically capable of positioning patients, transporting patients by cart or wheelchair, and lifting, moving or transporting supplies, instruments and equipment.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, PRN
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
