The Bus Rider/Attendant, is responsible for assisting the Bus Driver in the safe transportation of students and managing the operation of the bus to ensure a safe and hazard-free environment for all students. This position is under the direction of the Director of Transportation and the Assistant Director of Transportation.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED equivalency
- Prior experience working with children
- Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work well with others
- Willing to receive additional training to improve job skills
- Must have good references
- Working knowledge of computer keyboarding skills desired
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide safe and comfortable conditions for students who ride on STCS buses
- Assist students as they enter and leave the bus and assist in loading and unloading wheelchair students
- Ensure students are seated before the vehicle is in motion; if students unfasten their belts during the ride, the rider/attendant must assist students in refastening safety belts
- Ensure students needing a safety restraint system are secured before the vehicle is in motion
- Observe student behavior and take positive action in correcting behavioral problems by using approved techniques
- Assist in emergency evacuation
- Clean interior of assigned bus including sweeping floors, wiping down seats, and cleaning windows as needed during non-student supervisory time
- Supervise students crossing a highway/road and make sure the student passes in front of bus when exiting the bus
- Appropriately secure wheelchairs
- Keep all student, parent and staff information confidential
- Maintain a positive attitude in working with students, parents, community members and other staff members
- Participate in all required training
- Prepare and maintain route sheets and reports; keep all records as required
- Prepare Accident Reports after any accident occurs involving the bus and/or school bus passengers
- Assist the Director of Transportation in mapping bus routes and planning schedules when needed
- Perform related duties as required by the Director of Transportation and in assistance to the Bus Driver
- Regular, in-person attendance required
Compensation: Pursuant to the applicable collective bargaining agreement
