Nikola is seeking an experienced lead quality assurance engineer to join the Hyla Fueling Operations team to fill a crucial role in assuring that fueling systems meet the highest quality standards required for reliable heavy-duty trucking. You will be responsible for developing quality inspection processes, analyzing quality inspection and certification data, problem-solving with functional departments to improve product performance, and leading continuous improvement projects to enhance product quality and process efficiency.
Responsibilities
Define/co-author/review/approve hydrogen fueling system design & validation plans.- Design and implement quality audit & inspection processes and oversee or perform hydrogen fueling system validation testing to Company and regulatory standards.
- Communicate with 3rd party fueling operators, internal hydrogen technicians, and automation/control teams to prepare and execute system and component inspections.
- Manage inspections and internal/external audits.
- Manage document control processes to ensure audit and certification compliance.
- Analyze quality inspection data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
- Provide feedback and guidance to production teams to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate problem-solving efforts related to product quality issues.
- Contribute to risk analysis of fueling system designs and operating procedures.
- With the Technical Program Manager and Operations Managers, lead continuous improvement projects to enhance product quality, streamline processes, and improve safety.
- Train and educate employees on quality control processes and techniques.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, fueling protocols, and best practices in fueling system safety and reliability.
- Maintain professional relationships, including frequent and open effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor in engineering or equivalent degree or demonstrated experience in the field of systems inspection and quality assurance.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and statistical process control.
- Proven analytical problem-solving skills with the capability to identify solutions for unusual and complex problems, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and identify trends and patterns – adapting fueling protocol specifications to test procedures that can be executed in the field.
- Understand industry standards and regulatory compliance requirements for high-pressure hydrogen components and systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in alternative fuel system/component testing.
- Advanced technical degree.
- Certification in quality management or Six Sigma.
